he made it up

How so?

You said that calling someone a 'racist' name is 'just' the same as calling them bald.

Look;

and no different to calling someone bald, short, big ears etc etc

it's the intent that matters not the words

So why would you not call someone a racist name then Rotty? If it's 'just' the same as calling them bald or short?

you are just starting conflict for the sake of it

Trying to remain impartial here, but it does appear that Rotty has hopefully unintentionally suggested that calling someone "a short arse" is the same as calling someone "an n word".

Or is that wrong?

More or less, me and Tummy got our posts deleted for disagreeing

I'm hoping that you are right. It would be pretty absurd if that's not the case, as I don't think the 2 can be compared in anyway.

I had no idea DD was banned, as I say, people like him are the sole reason I don't go in GD, there are far too many of them and it's very unpleasant. But that is very encouraging.

true and I didn't say you made it against a person, you made it against the attitude of the forum in general

But I do think the attitude to racism on this forum is unique, dirtydog was posting his bile unchallenged for years. Never seen anything like it elsewhere on the net. You might not like that opinion but I think it's valid.

Things may have changed now and I hope they have, obviously you don't get those kind of discussions in SA and that's why I stick in here

you have taken the 2 extremes there, if someone is black they are black, if they are not tall they are short

I said it was diwn to intent and the n word is harldy ever used with good intent

understand ? unfortuntely we have the problem of OMG that's racist rearing it's head again

No I'm not.

You've condoned racism by saying it's just the same as calling people 'bald, short', you've downplayed the issue. If there is nothing wrong with the words Rotty, what's to stop you using them? That's an honest question. You've said that they're the same as calling someone 'bald or short'.

I'm really stuck for words. I don't really think you can make excuses for racists. I find it offensive.

Also, why have you gone on a post removal spree, removing my posts but not the post that you quoted me in?

No, he's saying that the intent is the important thing  (I think).

If you go into a Chinese restaurant and start abusing them, saying, 'GO HOME YOU DAMN CHINKS'... that's racist. However, people can use the word in a completely innocent way, too... like how people say they're going to order a chinky (:o).

Or, I had a friend who worked with someone who was apparently called 'Chinky Dave':o (everyone there was completely cool with it, apparently/they were all genuine friends).

.

I have someone I play poker with who is know to everyone as Chinese Frankie, he has no problem with and answers to that name, it's not offensive because no one intends to offend

Yes, but pointing out that someone is black in a friendly manner isn't racist. It of course depends on the context but in this hypothetical context it is being used to insult - the Saurez incident.

So if they are both being used to insult someone you are saying they are equally offensive, which is not the case. There's name calling and then there's racist name calling, one is considered far more serious than the other. That is my point.

no problem, I will pass your concerns to the moderating team and let them decide on whether I was out of order or am condoning racism as you suggest

re the removeal, it was because you quoted something else

NB. I don't say I'm going for a chinky, use the word ****, or anything like that... I'm just saying that people can use words like chink/****/etc, without intending to cause harm/be offensive - is that racist? I'd say no. Ignorant, perhaps... but not racist. They are often used in a racist way, but that doesn't mean anyone that says the words is a racist.

Edit :: I'm certain I've engaged in threads like this before, where it was okay to post actual words (because it's discussing the words, so including them is kinda important). If that's now not allowed, I can edit, obviously.

Right. Common sense takes over though, why would you use a word that has massively racist undertones? It's 'not' just the same as calling someone 'bald or short' though is it?

It's not just the 'OMG racism' thing. Why is downplaying racist language such as the 'n' word ok?

Ok, if you're referring this over to them. Can you un edit your posts, un remove the replies and lock the thread until it's over?

I don't hold any hope after the way DD managed to get away with it for so long.

I know it's massively off topic but does anybody know why DD was banned, purely out of curiousity

Also looking back it's good to have this discussion as it is healthy, but the whole thing should probably be deleted as it is nothing to do with football, so you're right in that respect Rotty
