What time frame are you looking at though? From when they got their investment? If so, that's a bit harsh. They're not going to go from where they were to challenging for major honours overnight. From when they made it into the CL and could start attracting the same sort of players, Utd, Chelsea and the sides they were supposed to compete against were attracting - they've won the league and are in a FA Cup final. Their only failure imo is in Europe.

I think City play attractive football when they actually turn up, when Silva, Nasri etc. actually click. When they don't it all looks a bit like forced, attempted tiki-taka because they play so narrow and just get frustrated.

I don't think that was the case at all though, they could attract decent players before the CL, they signed Robinho! Money talks remember hence why they are packed with mercenaries.

They were building a project like they kept telling the world, a super club if you like with all the money in the world and they were going to dominate.

People forget they quite often fielded two DM's against the likes of Wolves etc.

They tried to sign too many players that were similar, they have no back up plan a lot of the time which is scandalous seeing as they have so many players.

Silva/Nasri
Tevez/Aguero
Milner/Barry

When one comes off they tend to replace them like for like, that's not mixing it up enough and they get found out, hence this season people have taken the fight to them a lot of the time, they should be utterly feared after last season but the second album is always more difficult to pull off.

When it's not working they don't tend to have a plan b, when they did have a plan b it was lumping it to Dzeko. Not as attractive as people think.

They could attract better players than their league position suggested however they were all compromises. Either players motivated by money or with questionable attitudes. These aren't the top class players that other top sides would have gone for.

Lets just hope he doesn't take Isco with him :/

They upped his release clause in his new contract but I doubt that would stop City getting him. Malaga seriously need the cash as well and since they're not in Europe for at least one season then he may see City as a good option with his manager.

That was Mancini rectifying Hughes's regime.

We don't employ the same tactics now, on paper it may look like it but it really isn't.

I agree, we don't have enough in our team for what we have spent but its done now. I am sure if we were to do it all again we would spend differently like every manager would.
Our squad is lacking a genuine wide man with pace, skill and goals as well as an "all action" midfielder. Mancini wanted Sanchez last season and Hazard this season as well as De Rossi and Martinez. Arguably after these players went elsewhere we should have gone for someone else but maybe there was no one else out there available at the right quality.

Doesn't matter if Plan B is attractive, it is if its effective. Which for the most part it has been with Dzeko. Games v Spurs and West Brom come to mind straight away where him coming off the bench and us changing our style of play bringing results.

Back to Pellegrini. It looks like a done deal which I don't agree with but I am hoping to be proved wrong and I look forward to seeing what he can do. Huge call by the management!

Apparently Isco is part of the deal as well which would be a good signing straight away. Doesn't address our main problems imo but a talented player with plenty of potential.

So apart from it being Mark Hughes' fault, you agree with me
The bit about Mancini playing two defensive midfielders was to rectify what Hughes had done with the team. When he first joined we were very defensively minded and as you say played two defensive mids against every team.

I agree with what your saying regarding the players we have in the squad and the lack of variety, hence why I said we need a Sanchez or Hazard etc.

isn't he just another Silva / Mata / Cazorla, not solving what you need and costing 30m?
Well effectively yes, He is a good player and possibly brilliant but as you say he doesn't solve our main problem imo.
