Off topic and without sounding like a ginger beer drinker, Maldini was a hell of a handsome son of a ***** as well.

There was a point where I was sat watching the CL in a pub at a family party and had to listen to how my then Mrs, my Ma and my sister all wanted to bed old Paulo.

:/

It's an Italian thing (can I say that?), have you seen the photo's of the national team each time they're off to an international tournament? Christ. Normal men don't achieve that level of pretty.

I think Pirlo's a very handsome chap too & that beard.

Tummy ffs.

I apologise in advance to people reading this in the morning looking for decent football chat.

It was at first but we seem to have turned it into the gayest thread in the SA (and I'm including the gay body building threads)

Whole hearted apologies.

And I don't think it's an Italian thing per se, I grew up with a few families of Italians and they were all little and fat, the brothers looked like their mothers and the sisters looked exactly like their dads.

It was ****ed up man.

Regarding Baresi, I think that's the hallmark of a properly great defender, Maldini had it, Nesta had it, Baresi certainly had it.

It's the ability to see in to the future, to read players minds and to know what a forward is going to do before he tries it and then to shut that door before it's opened.

I can't remember which defender said it, but they basically said that a defender that comes off the pitch with muddy shorts isn't playing well (because he's let forwards get the better of him and had to make a last ditch tackle to fix it, if he was defending well that wouldn't have happened), I'm not totally sure I agree with it, I think there is a certain art to a last ditch tackle, but I see the point he's making, and I think that against good players, chances are always created.

Anyway, I've had a drink too. I don't think I could nail it down to one player that I've enjoyed watching more than others, same goes for the best.

People will argue, but really, at the very top of the pyramid of great footballers, they're interchangeable, there are a few that regardless of order are in a top list, I also, hate and loath people that throw around the word 'legend' or 'world class' or simply refer to good players as 'great', good players can have the odd brilliant game, but that doesn't mean they're suddenly great players or whatever.

I don't know if that makes sense teither :), crabbies ginger beer is awesome though.
Did u guys ever see Scirea play? he is regarded as being at the same level as Baresi. Those guys were long before my time though.

I can recall watching this side many times on telly and its full of class! I was looking at this last night (I used Chrome to translate, as page is in French):
http://www.oldschoolpanini.com/2011/11/et-si-boban-avait-declenche-la-guerre.html

Some incredible history there, especially the Red Star Belgrade vs Dynamo Zagreb match. Boban going completely mental in the chaos, and the other vids show how much of a war football can be.

These were a couple of jewels featuring 2 of the stars of the same Milan team, which I also found linked from the same page:
