How can his punishment be consistent with previous punishments when previous offenses have resulted in punishments ranging from a £6k fine to an 8 match ban.

As it didn't get much press - which might explain why the FA just swept it under the carpet - some of you might have missed this:

To put the punishment into perspective (and this isn't any anti-Liverpool conspiracy, it's just a charge that springs to mind) - Ryan Babel was fined £10k for retweeting a picture of Howard Webb in a Utd shirt.

Hopefully he'll just get a fine then. :)

You hope he just gets a fine for being racist?

We're a bit light defensively if he gets a ban. Also, there's a chance (however small) he may not have actually known it was a racist term (officially, it isn't).

No doubt the FA will use their magic 8 ball to decide.

Well he obviously knew what it meant, hardly was thinking 'huehuehue mate you're right, he is like one of those ice cream things.' Being racist was the only thing that made sense.

What he says he thought it meant is different to the racist definition. We can never be 100% certain either way, all that matters is whether the FA believe him or not.

As a general rule though, even talking about other teams players on Twitter is stupid.

What do you mean by that Robbo? What else could he say 'that is a classic' or whatever too?

This is the reason he gave:

What I said yesterday is not a racist term. Its a type of slang/term used by many for someone who is being fake. So there.

Now, the tweet he was replying to when he originally said it called Ashley Cole a 'sellout' (and it was an Arsenal fan).

It wasn't necessarily aimed at his skin colour... I mean Rio is the same colour so that would be a bit odd.

Also, given how 'big' he is on Twitter, would he really be that dumb? Possibly, but who knows.

If he was infact being racist then he's obviously incredibly stupid, but I don't think anyone can say that with absolute certainty. The glorious FA will decide.

Slang for someone being fake while referring to their skin colour though is it not?
Anyways it doesn't matter, I'm sure the FA will go to one retarded extreme or the other.

It does look that way, but personally I don't really know.

Is there a specific database/dictionary of slang terms they can use in court? If not, then I imagine his representatives will argue there's no case to answer.

As I'm sure you know, Moses, court (the FA's court, anyway, whatever that is) is about proving what he meant. Is there a means of doing that? If not, I suspect he'll be able to dodge it.

If there's an official list of slang/racist/whatnot terms they can call on, they'll probably look at a more serious punishment.

I think this is only shown on MUTV, but Wayne Rooney really can't act (which shouldn't come as a surprise, but it's still funny :p) -

Rio Ferdinand has been fined £45,000 by the FA for improper conduct regarding the choc-ice tweet.

No suspension!

Good stuff, was worried he may miss some games which would be a disaster considering the injuries to Evans, Smalling & Jones at the moment.
