Personally I would go with the 144HZ IPS over 144hz TN.
The majority of people who have used the acer IPS 144HZ and swift have noticed very little to no difference when it comes to the motion clarity, however, the better image quality/colours, viewing angles/no contrast shift, much lighter anti-glare finish are noticeable differences and imo would out weigh the slightly better motion clarity of TN. IIRC badass in his tftcentral review said that he actually preferred the acer IPS 144HZ over the swift as there was no overshoot like on the 144HZ TN panels.
Unfortunately with these new IPS panels though, they seem to be very sensitive to pressure as none of the manufacturers can seem to produce a large quantity without back light bleed.
I am hoping that the upcoming dell 144HZ gsync screen is using IPS, at least if anything is wrong with it regarding back light bleed, you have excellent customer service.
But yes, the monitor is definitely the one thing that I would spend the most on (same for all peripheral devices tbh), if you are spending quite a bit of money on your PC to get games running well and looking as good as possible then you should be reflecting that with a top end display, although monitor prices are taking the **** now i.e. that asus 34" screen.... especially with top end TV's costing not much more.
