***THE BF4 BENCHMARKS THREAD***

Bah trying to hold off building a new rig until Maxwell but this thread is making me want to go blow a load of money on a new setup :(

Don't buy a 2Gb card because 2GB is enough for 1600P

Don't get an I5 either because an I5 is enough to cope

Don't get a 120Hz monitor because 60fps feels smoother.

Other than that, the game will give you around 1 - 200 fps, so running very smooth but stuttery.

That should make upgrading nice and easy :p

Interesting watching the vega video. What i took from that was when the vram limit is reached gpu usage tanks. Now at some points the frame rates were only going down to 20-30 which is what we are seehow it in bf4. Could it be that when vram is only being breached for a split second the gpu usage falls slightly less and then goes back up resulting in drops in fps to 20-30. At some points the fps are in single digits which could mean a prolonged amount of time over the 2gb limit resulting in even less gpu usage and bigger drops in fps.

I think final8y got it right in the single card tanks to 1 and the more cards help. He was down to 6 fps at a couple of points and incredibly noticable in that quad 68/'s vid but other times he was at 20 but regardless, that is how it looks when vram runs out.

Yea i was also watching the gpu usage which was spiking up and down as he went over the 2gb and back under which is why i was thinking the above. Vega was constantly going over and back under. If in bf4 its only going over now and then you would get far smoother game play but at times have those drops now and then.

It's not what we're seeing in BF4 though - look at Kaapstad's results. :)

Yeah, that was the one.
So in their 40 second video with not much happening the 690 couldn't get more than 53fps max but in the 8 minute video it got 66fps?
It doesn't mention on the swe graphs so are you sure those graphs were done using 4x MSAA?

Yes it mentions it in their article. Also their vram usage mirrors that on the site you linked when running Ultra with X4AA.

I would find it hard to recommend a 2GB card now, even for 1080P, because it is becoming quite apparent that ultra settings in a few of the newer games are requiring 2 GPU's for the fps watchers and it is better to have more than less.

For the casual gamer mind, I would still recommend a 2GB card, whether it be AMD's new offerings or older nvidia cards.

Times are moving on.

Please, they show nothing. We can hardly use that as a estimation of performance. I'll go with 8 minutes intensive gameplay over spawning and looking up at a sky scraper. :D

Anyone ran the DX file in BF4 folder? "C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4 Beta\__Installer\directx\redist"

Just ran it then and it installed file/updated Couple people on BattleLog saying it fixed there stutter?

Not tested myself off to work, but seeing as its updated files for DX can't be a bad thing ay?

Sounds like placebo material but ill try it. :D

Conflicting evidence.

User reviews show fine @1600p with everything, 1 website review shows not enough (clearly, look at the graph)
Matt, you have my quotes copied (I know you do!!) what was the specifics regarding framerate for playability for two cards?

I'll need to either wait for the full game or more conclusive proof that 2GB isn't enough for 1600p before i buy you this game :D

Hah.

I'd feel like a mug buying any GPU this generation tbh. Titan came up about the time I'd have gone for an upgrade but was about 25% more expensive than I'd consider paying for the level of performance it gave. So I've kind of held off doing a new build.

EDIT: (As an aside I've no problem with people paying full whack for Titan if they want the best and are prepared to pay for the best just doesn't fit in with how I evaluate my spending).

With TSMC building another 20nm factory, 20nm could be here quicker than we are expecting.

Honestly Tone i don't know where the quote is or what it was. Playable on two cards whilst exceeding 2gb vram at 60fps at highest setting at 1440p/1600p i think it was.

So far we have Kaap who spawned into the game and said hey it runs fine and proceeded to take some screenshots of a sky scraper and an empty street vs the rest of the internet complaining of terrible fps on 690's and the swe clockers review. I don't think you can get much more concrete than the swe clockers analysis as it shows the same on two different 2gb cards. 2gb limit exceeded and very low minimum fps in comparison with other multi gpu 3gb cards.

Anyway its definitely playable on overclocked 7950 crossfire i can confirm that much so theres that side of it.

I've done what i can the balls in your court. ;)

Please direct me to any other reviews i missed.

"DO SOMETHING!!!"

Swe clockers did what needed to be done. Nothing more can be done. :)

^^ Crossfire .. Runs fine on a single Nvidia GTX 780, don't even need any of that Mantle junk either :D

I believe it was 60fps +/- 5, although the resolution was specifically defined. I think it was just 1440/1600. Which could mean either, could mean both. I'm also not sure if the bet was regarding the BETA performance or the final game performance

The sweclockers results only show 1440p. Both the 690 and 770 SLI only get 66/67 fps, so at 1600p they might fall below the 60 +/-5fps condition.

Also those graphs also only show the min for 770 SLI as being about the same as a single Titan, 780 and 7970 GHz. They're not being VRAM limited (you'd hope) but the 770 is? I can believe the 690 is but it's gets much lower min fps (29fps vs. 19fps). Is the 770 SLI getting an extra 10fps minimum purely on GPU grunt?

I've not looked at "the rest of the internet" which apparently backs up these findings.

.

770 SLI has faster memory chips than a 690. 770 = 1750mhz x2 vs stock 690 which is what 1500mhz x2.

You need to compare minimum frame rates from the 2gb cards from medium settings to ultra settings at 1440p in the benchmarks i listed. The only cards that suffer this massive drop in performance are 2gb cards. 179% and 90% drop in minimum frame rate vs AMD 3gb card equivalents going from ultra to medium settings. 780 SLI does not exhibit this drop, neither do the 7990 or 7970 crossfire. All 3gb cards.
