What on earth has happened to RAM? Is this why it's so expensive? To pay for the architects involved in the ridiculous design?

Motherboards seem to be the same. What happened to just functional boards rather than fashion accessories.

Yep. I look at the prices now. Then look at my 3930k with 32gb RAM and realise it's just not worth an upgrade at all.
