The Black Friday 17 Thread! - pls make sure you understand competitor rules

Wow what rubbish - I decided to buy a dishwasher (not on sale) and was going to order today from John Lewis... overnight put the price up by £100! Ffs!!!

I assume this is ‘sale’ related...

I think so.

For what it’s worth, I have 4K 49” TV and apparently that’s too small to tell the difference between 1080p and 4K... although I swear I can tell the difference... just :p

If you are going for a new TV, don’t forget about HDR.

My TV was a Samsung KS8000 I believe, which cost just less than £1000 a year ago. Its great in all ways EXCEPT for light blooming, which is virtually unavoidable on non-OLED TVs. If you watch credits at the end of the film, the is a subtle white glow around the white text. Most of the time this is irrelevant though - it doesn’t make any material difference when watching the vast majority of films / playing games. Otherwise it’s great - wish I went for 55” though!
I have a 48” and can tell the difference viewing from 5 feet or less. Anything over and I struggle to tell.

I suggest waiting for a bit then and take note of both prices

Only thing I was looking at was echo spot, but it hasn't been released yet in UK. So that's off the cards.

And lol at the moaners. Use camel camel camel or similar and only buy stuff you want at a good price. Just because there's a lot of rubbish mixed in, doesn't mean there aren't any deals.

Im after a few new usb sticks as I seem to have misplaced some of mine.

Other than that nothing really unless a super cheap 4k tv comes up but I doubt thats going to happen

tell me about it I lost my mini one, bought a new one and then found it stuck to the back of a post it note.

I'm on the lookout for a cordless vacuum and a couple of 40-43 inch TV's but nothing particularly standing out for value tbh. The dyson cordless are absurdly overpriced anyway so even with a 50% discount they would still be outrageous

Please read the rules about competitors. For instance, NOT mentioning any product which OcUK currently sell! - EVH

I saw it for £800, is it still a worthwhile TV to get?
You’ll have to read the reviews and decide - I’m not an expert. It was very well regarded at the time. The 7000 series was the slightly cheaper model with, afaik, a lower quality stand and lower quality speakers, and some minor loss of functionality. Also I recall reading the 7000 series was more ‘plasticy’ and that some backs were falling off - you’ll have to google that!

As far as I’m concerned, when buying, it had good HDR, a nice stand, very low input lag on game mode - all these things are still true. Upon purchase, I thought the sound was decent too and I have no incentive to buy a sound bar.

With all TVs there are some compromises. You cannot get non-OLED screens without some light bleeding. Just doesn’t happen AFAIK. OLED screen are, or at least they were, epically expensive - the only real benefit as far as I am aware is that dark scenes look better due to the lack of light bleeding.... but they tend to have significantly worse input lag and a worse viewing angle as well as a massive price! So pick your poison. By just ‘getting over’ the occasional light bleed you save yourself a lot of grief... it only makes an obvious difference during credit sequences and almost certainly won’t be worse than on you current TV.

The only other thing to add is that 4K is only noticeable at normal viewing distances on a 55” plus tv. Of course, 1080p will probably look better on a smaller screen, so again - pick your poison! All in all I was and am very happy with it, although I haven’t picked up any 4K discs since those that came with the 4K player... CBA, not a huge enough difference to justice the expense of the 4K discs on a TV of that size.

You’ll probably only get a perfect TV for a grand in a few years time.

Hope that helps :p

You can always do what I did to hedge your bets. Buy the item (TV in my case) and set delivery for one month away.

Then, if the item comes on sale towards Christmas (assuming you can wait) you can cancel the first order prior to delivery.

You are also covered by DSR or whatever it is called now until after the January sales.

Initially bought a 48 inch TV for £499 or £549 and changed to a 55 inch for £100 more. Both were Samsung 6400 series. and there was a £300 difference.

I did originally say I wanted 40"+ 4K to fir below £300 and was quoted with a Toshiba that fits perfectly, but I've just found this LG from Curry's with HDR for £370. May Ben better to go for the LG for slight future proofing and the fact that I like LG TV's I've had in the past

Anybody any thoughts on this second TV or experience of difference with and without HDR?
