The Black Friday 17 Thread! - pls make sure you understand competitor rules

You’ll have to read the reviews and decide - I’m not an expert. It was very well regarded at the time. The 7000 series was the slightly cheaper model with, afaik, a lower quality stand and lower quality speakers, and some minor loss of functionality. Also I recall reading the 7000 series was more ‘plasticy’ and that some backs were falling off - you’ll have to google that!

As far as I’m concerned, when buying, it had good HDR, a nice stand, very low input lag on game mode - all these things are still true. Upon purchase, I thought the sound was decent too and I have no incentive to buy a sound bar.

With all TVs there are some compromises. You cannot get non-OLED screens without some light bleeding. Just doesn’t happen AFAIK. OLED screen are, or at least they were, epically expensive - the only real benefit as far as I am aware is that dark scenes look better due to the lack of light bleeding.... but they tend to have significantly worse input lag and a worse viewing angle as well as a massive price! So pick your poison. By just ‘getting over’ the occasional light bleed you save yourself a lot of grief... it only makes an obvious difference during credit sequences and almost certainly won’t be worse than on you current TV.

The only other thing to add is that 4K is only noticeable at normal viewing distances on a 55” plus tv. Of course, 1080p will probably look better on a smaller screen, so again - pick your poison! All in all I was and am very happy with it, although I haven’t picked up any 4K discs since those that came with the 4K player... CBA, not a huge enough difference to justice the expense of the 4K discs on a TV of that size.

You’ll probably only get a perfect TV for a grand in a few years time.

Hope that helps :p

OLED TVs have the best viewing angles of all the TV screen types on the market! It's LED that have the worst. The Input lag is also very low on OLEDs, not the absolute best but certainly very low. OLED TVs are significantly superior to LED TVs, the cost is the only real negative. When I was looking for TVs, this time last year, there was an obvious winner for picture quality alone.

Please read the rules about competitors. For instance, NOT mentioning any product which OcUK currently sell! - EVH

Aren't there rules about how long it has to have been at a price before they can claim it's a reduction?

Is it just me or are the Amazon Black Friday sale items just the usual junk they are trying to get rid of?

totally agree its a pathetic sale literally have nothing on offer that makes me say 'oh take my money' its the dregs that is on offer imo.

I have a small list of items I have been considering buying for a while. I know the prices they sell generally sell form. If they are (genuinely) discounted then I will get them. If nit then I will simply wait until they are discounted another time. I won't be buying anything not on my list.

Iv bought a hive, 124 quid.. It will do. Its a lot for a thermostat but i have an echo so will link. Plus the system iv got now is rubbish its a programmer and wireless thermostat which is terribly inaccurate.

should have bought a nest for a few quid more.

google own nest. nest is compatible with a tonne of products. nest also are releasing new and amazing products all the time. their smoke alarms are also carbon monoxide and movement detectors as well as pathlights for instance killing 4 birds with 1 stone.

they are releasing video doorbells like ring next year.

they also have security cameras with intelligent software as well as saving to the cloud, so no need for a DVR and maintaining it.

Well, I got what I was after. Ordered 3 Echo's with 3 TP Link plugs for 189. Would have been 345 last week.

That's my presents sorted. :p

LG use mainly IPS panels so their viewing angles are superb. it's the likes of samsung with their VA panels that have poor viewing angles.

Both have their pro's and cons. So does buying either tech of LCD. I opted for an LG 4K HDR screen because it seemed like the best option at the time. It has a glass front panel adn the build quality is 10 times that of samsungs.

Had some items in my saved checkout on Amazon hoping they would be discounted but nope, nothing. The same items where heavily discounted on last years sale so stuff ‘em.

I've got the LG 49UH770V in my bedroom, a slightly newer version of the one you have? A really underrated TV!
