Most of them are very good. The reason a lot of people own them is because not much else can match the high end 3's and 5's as an allround package.

On a serious note, picture you're in my position. Next car must have 4 doors, I want something rear wheel drive, about 3 series in size.
Can you suggest a better car than a 330, regardless of price?

Your probably right, I dont doubt that BMW's are great cars I just dont see why people praise them so much really, most of them are kind of bland in my opinion.

not really, i like to be a bit original, and drive a car i like the look of, not just cos my neighbour has one. Even if i needed a car that was more practical (god forbid) it would still NEVER be a BMW, i don't want to be sterotyped with that lot.

Let me get this right. You agree that there probably isn't a better car than a 330 for my needs (and I did say regardless of cost), yet you wonder why they might be a little bit more special than your average car.
Am I missing something here?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not say that a 330 is the best car at everything out there. There's clearly a number of faster, more economical, more comfortable, spacious, more exciting cars, however the BM fills it's niche very well in doing most things VERY well. To me, that does make it a little special.

Well Dolomite Sprint is 970kg with everything except for fuel. That is a car sold between 1973-1980 and in the same class of car as the 3 series is now. So yes they have put on a lot of weight.

Pros Well built, Good image, solid, high spec models allways look good, go weel and handle.

Cons Over priced, basic models are dull, expensive if stuff goes wrong, not as reliable as BMW would have you believe, awfully snobish jumped up salemen in the main, still have a " yuppie " type image.

A tad over rated but i still want a 330 but theres better value for money out there

The above are my views and relate to the 3 and 5 series

It's obvious who he is reffering to, but as all the regulars in here know, he's completely wrong. I've ALWAYS posted the same way irrespective of what car I owned, and I've never been of the opinion that only one marque will do. Infact only the other day I said I'd take an E63 AMG over an M5. That makes me a pretty rubbish fanboy and kinda undermines the 'BMW RULE EVERYTHING ELSE IS CRAP' image half the forum appears to have me down as.

It was the same when I had a Mondeo, apparently I thought Ford was amazing and everything was rubbish despite stating NUMEROUS times that of the entire Ford range I only liked the Mondeo and the Focus and would never buy a Focus. It's the same with BMW. I like the E39 and E46, tolerate the rest, and wouldn't buy quite a lot in their range.

But don't let the facts get in the way of a good bout of character assassination, opinions formed on incorrect presumptions and just plain piffle, eh

What about all the other turbo & supercharged 5's pushing out lots more power than Freefallers, they all rubish?

Just cause it ONLY does 0-60 in 7.7 seconds means its a pants car does it, only an idiot would knows nothing about cars would come to this conclusion, does this also make all the non 190Bhp Elises pants as well?
