CC took a hammering today, but can't wait for my boxes to arrive.

Hopefully she'll be nicely corrected for the Thruxton am VXR session next week. Although I am away this weekend for my birthday, so being an anally retentive paintwork pervert won't be on the cards.

was all by hand, was super smooth and a lush deep black. It "was" great.

now its super super swirly, from all the fine grit rubbed in with the J cloth, and all the wax stripped off.

Didn't get any pics, and had just put on the vinyl letters too

What have you been using to clean/polish? I drove past the other day (friday I think) put could see her :(.

it was in Luton, getting abused :(

was using Meguiars clay bar, scratchX 2.0 ( which didn't seem all the special ) nxt wash, poorboys blackhole sealant and nxt wax, worked very well indeed

How long do you guys usually give yourself to Wash, Clay, Polish and Wax your cars?

I'm trying to work out if I can do it in an evening after work or if I should wait until Saturday when I have the whole day

I wash it in about 45 minutes: Garden hose + 2 bucket method with the megs lamswool wash mitt.
I only clayed to test it, I'll only do it if I'm planning on correction work on a specific panel/scratch/damage. Very quick, spray the whone panel with quick detailer, quick detailing clay, about 4 minutes per panel, bout 10 minute on the bonnet, I'm not doing my roof waste of time imho I don't really see the roof ( or go rubbing it with my hands for that matter) anyhow I'm too small.

Don't think I can be arsed to polish my whole car, I only do specific damage/scratches that annoy me...

Wax(liquid wax), think I did my whole car in 1 hour, I put it on with megs soft foam app pads on a panel, then the next panel, then buff it off with mf cloth, apply next panel, etc. I start with the next panel before wiping the last panel off. A tad rushed but meh, as long as the paint is protected/sealed and easy to wash next time... With all the dust outside these days I cba to spend a whole day only to make it look clean for a week...

Can anyone with a rotary polisher give me some guidance on what pads/accessories/polishes/products to get?

I've just become the owner (for free) of a Hitachi 5", but have no idea what products to get to make it useful!

Any insight would be fantastic.

Just about finished my work on the Saab.

Washed with Megs Hyper wash, clay using Bilt Hamber soft clay, wash again, AG SRP then sealed with Colinite 476, all black plastics treated with G|Techniq C4. The wheels will also be getting a coat of wax so hopefully they will resist dirt a bit better.

*Bump*

Re: Cleaning leather seats.

Most on DW seem to recommend Gliptone liquid leather, not used it myself.

I use autoglym leather cleaner and then leather feed which works great.

As for cltohs, any microfibre will be fine. It's a good idea to stockpile when Tesco have offers on as they sell 5-6 packs of good quality mf cloths for £1-£2.

Use one to clean, one to feed ;)

See Colinite 476 mentioned a lot on here. Had a quick google and....

Easy to apply and absolutely DETERGENT PROOF.

guaranteed to outlast and outshine any other competitive car wax, polish or protective coating under any conceivable condition. That's why it's called the PERMANENT AUTO WAX.

No hard rubbing or buffing and no special applicator is required. Collinite Super Double Coat will last a full year, even under adverse conditions. Clear coat safe.

Sounds like some sort of car concrete! :p

I'm assuming its a carnauba based wax, so what gives it its longevity?

Can anyone recommend a polish or product to protect against UV? (not suncream) Basically something that will protection a plastic coating on the outside of a trailer. The sun and weather is starting to make the colour fade.

303 Aerospace Protectant

afaik, carnauba waxes are NOT that resilient, the synthetic ones outlast the carnauba ones, but carnauba provides a deep ''wet look'' shine.

The saab up above almost looks like its been varnished. Is that look synthetic waxes give? Or maybe its just the lighting in the photo

it is carnuba based, but only partly. Its the other synthetic components that give it its longevity as other high content carnuba more expensive waxes arent as durable.

OK gents after some advice!

I really need to sort the paint on my car, and going to start by giving it a bloody good clean!

What products would you recommend for a first clean on a previously immigrant hand washed car? I really want to get it as clean as I can before I start polishing and attacking the swirlies.

My current plan of attack is.....

Hose down (just bought a garden hose for this, 30m bugger the gardens long lol.) Should I jet wash instead?

Wash using the two bucket method, what shampoo? I notice a lot of shampoos are designed to not clean too harshly, so as not to affect any wax etc. you may of applied. I actually want to cut down as much as I can and really start fresh, so what should I use first? I've heard about people using diluted tesco 'all purpose cleaner' before bothering with shampoo?
What shampoo after that?

Clay - What clay? Again they seem to come in different grades? I will need something fairly beefy I imagine as its really not in great nick at the moment . Lube? Is a spray bottle with water and a smidge of the aforementioned shampoo not enough?

Wash again with shampoo - To clear off any Clay residue

Dry with waffle weave

I'm trying to get this half right first, before i look into polish/glaze/sealant/wax/etc

Thanks for any help. Also, what websites? Cleanyourcar seems good, but not a huge range tbh, hear a lot of products praised in their forums but they don't actually stock them!
