Further to my above post.....

I've been reading for a bit tonight and I've come up with the following so far......and in this order.

Autoglym Body Shampoo - 3for2
Bilt Hamber Clay Original - Only needs water for lube, 200g for £12 makes it a bargain.
(Thinking of a harder cutting polish in here? I've heard SPR is very good though?)
Autoglym Super Resin Polish - 3for2
Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection -3for2 / Autoglym Aquawax

Thats probably it for materials. On to accessories which seem to add up to even more than the chemicals!

CleanYourCar Huge 'Fluffy' Drying Towel
Eurow - Shag Pile Double Density Towels x3
Meguiars Lambswool Wash Mitt
I guess I'll need some applicator pads for the SPR aswell? Or will the microfibre towels do the job? Similiarly for the EGP on top?

This is a minefield! Unfortunately this is exactly the kind of thing I'd get addicted to reading about and obsessing over, lets hope not as its ruddy expensive tbh!

Autoglym tar remover works really well, as does WD40! You could take the tar off wiht some clay.

As for the leather Q earlier, I can highly reccomend Gliptone products.Ive used the cleaner on some real dirty seats, and it works really well. You dont really need conditioner on newish seats.Ive even used their scuff master kit to renovate seats, again really makes a massive difference on all but the major scrapes.

A few questions, if I may:

1. Through utterly carelessness I've managed to get polish on some of the black plastic trim pieces of my Focus. Now there's a white residue on them. How do I remove it?

2. What's in Meguiar's Quik Detailer that makes it smell so delicious?

3. Is Meguiar's Last Touch the same as the Quik Detailer?

4. I've run out of Werkstat Acrylic (Prime, Glos, Jet) and I fancy trying something else. Any recommendations for a metallic silver car?

Are there any products that can actually stop/repel the bloody annoying microscopic sap/tar spots that are making our paintwork feel like sandpaper at this time of year? Removing it is one thing but within a couple of days the car is covered again it would seem :(

A proper sealant and waxing will mean that the tar only sticks to the coating and not the bodywork.

I have no problem with tar spotting on my cars.

Granted the wax ends up covered in tar, but that's nothing that a good wash doesn't fix.

It's not really tar, wrong word. It's more like sap. I'm going to buy some wax/sealant and claying products at some point anyway and give it all a go :)

I use Megs gold class black back. If that's the name its whats coming to mind. it usually does the trick.

So... I've washed and waxed my car. I'm about to die and my arms fallen off but hay ho I've got a wicked looking car. All I need to do is dress the plasic and tyres; I also guess that I should give the glass a polish.

I get out all my AG goodies, fast glass, instant tyre dressing and that great back to black stuff.

Squirt squirt on the windows with the fast glass... Oh no, it's on the newly polished paint, balls. Rub rub rub the paint... Massive streaks all over the car! Gutted!!

Question- how do I avoid this? What order should I do things in?

Thanks

Squirt it onto the cloth first? Its how i do it and face away from the Vehicle.

I try no use it on the windscreen, Im not 100% sure its the fast glass cleaner but when raining and I have my wipers on it goes all wierd.

Well I've just finished giving the MX5 a proper wash and wax! With my back I had to split the waxing over 2 days but I washed it, gave the entire car (only 6 weeks old!) a full clay bar as it was covered in little lumps and bumps and then a full waxing with the Meguiars stuff. Smoother than a supermodels bum now and shiny, really shiny. Going down to Devon on Friday so thought we'd take the Mazda!

Like they seem ineffective and leave a sort of mist which takes a few seconds to clear? I get the same, was thinking it could be down to this Fast Glass stuff.

I don't think you are meant to use any glass cleaner on the outside of the windscreen, only the inside.

2000 ist clean:

Nothing special, just cheap Hellfrauds wax (which is appalling) and a bucket of hot water with some Turtlewax car cleaner in it :)

Did use a fair bit of Autoglym vinyl and rubber care, and a little Autoglym metal polish too, though :)

Spruced up the engine bay a bit too:
