Finally picked up my new car and want to try and look after the paintwork! I've flicked through this thread but I've just ended up confused :(

I don't want to go overboard or spend a ridiculous amount but would appreciate suggestions as I'm totally new to this!

Car is a Panther Black Mk7 Fiesta ZS, products I'm currently looking at

Meguiars Lambswool Wash Mitt, Large Microfibre towels for drying
Shampoo : Autoglym Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner
Clay : Not sure!
Polish : Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine Car Polish
Wax : Again, not sure - I've looked at Autoglym High Definition Wax, would this be overkill?
Then something like Meguiar's Ultimate Detailer to keep things looking ok in between washes

I've seen that Halfrauds have got a 3 for 2 on car cleaning stuff so would look to get the Shampoo, Polish and Detailers from there and get the rest from somewhere like cleanyourcar.co.uk

Advice would be appreciated, won't be offended if anyone tells me I'm doing it all wrong! :)

AG shampoo + AG claying kit + AG super resin polish + AG Aqua Wax

As you get one of the cheapest free, either the wax or polish, or pick up 2 more things to make it 6, something like AG tyre dressing and AG wheel cleaners.

It won't be cheap, after the buckets, hose and attachments, mitts and micro fibre cloths I spent like £120!

I use Autoglym High Definition Wax and it gives a great finish with super beading, that said I wouldn't buy it from Halfrauds as it can be sourced much cheaper online. For inbetween waxes I use either AG Aqua Wax or Meguiars Ultimate Quik Wax. Deffo pick up a clay kit as its worth doing before you give it a good polish, you will be amazed at what comes off with it.

I know it's cheaper online but when it's 3 for 2, the prices becomes quite competitive.

Sorry Raymond I meant buy the AG High Deff Wax online as Halfrauds charge over £40 for this and it can be bought for under £30 online, as for everything else yes they are fine.

Just checked they charge £45 :O

Thanks for the replies :) I've read that Ultra Deep Shine is better than Super Resin Polish for dark coloured cars, is this rubbish?

I use UDS on my ZS which is anthricite grey (black with a hint of gray/blue in certain lights) and it looks amazing, really deep shine. It covers up scratches with fillers though. after about a month the scratches come back looking pretty obvious against the deep black. Also dust, there is a fair bit of dust.

Had a very quick cleaning session this afternoon.

Engine bay before & after, it's not perfect but much better than it was:

Snow foam + tiny bit of Meg's gold class to give it a bit more cling:

I need to find the time to give it a quick machine polish as it doesn't really need correcting, only minor in a few places but the paint seems to have been dulled by wheel wash being used all over by previous owners

Wheels have been well protected:

I got the polish off the radar unit after this was taken.

Clean enough for now. Tackling the leather which needs some TLC tomorrow afternoon :)

will give the bmw its first clean today.

Meguires Gold Class shampoo
Autogylm SRP
Autogylm EGP
Colinite Wax (not used it for so long can't remember which one  )

Got some autogylm leather cleaner and feed for the interior

Got some virosol for cleaning wheels but whats good for sticking on them after. They are a tad curbed but just something to make them easier to clean next time. Used to always use cheap spray wax, ran out, is there something better?

Poorboys wheel sealant. Smells amazing too. Rub on, buff off once hazed. Couple of layers should do you for several months.

well its done, gave up after the EGP though too damn hot. Will have to wash and wax mid week. Just stuck some old turtlewax on the wheels for the mo, no point wasting the good stuff (and ran out of egp)
