Well its a black golf mk5. This will be my first time with the g220 but i have polished/wax by hand before.

Sorry, but what do you mean by struggle?

Get yourself down to the scrappy, buy a bonnet or door for a golf and practice away :)

Your probably best off starting with a polishing and finishing pad, you can get sample sets of 3M and Menzerna polishes that you can experiment with. Although generally speaking you'd start with a product with least cut, and work up if needed.

There's some excellent, detailed guides on the Detailing World forums.

IIRC the Zymol stuff from Halfords is actually made on license by Turtle Wax. Not saying it's rubbish, but don't buy it for the name ;)

I think the Megs Gold Class stuff is pretty good, although I'm using Chemical Guys Maxi Suds at the moment which seems to clean a little better plus it smells fantastic :D

, Dam Ive just ordered a bottle of it to try as my Megs Gold class has run out :(. Sure Ive read loads of positive comments on here before, oh well hope it does a good job. I was trying to decide between this and the Autoglym stuff and in the end i did ibble obble chocolate bobble and the Autoglym lost :( :D.

If it does a good job to my standards then you will be over the moon pretty much as I tend to expect better than good results with stuff like this :p

besides smelling good, the zymol stuff doesnt lubricate well (which is a swirl causer) and it doesn't create many suds (which means it doesn't break down dirt as well as others). Some people may disagree, but those people won't have tried the likes of megs shampoo plus ;)

Funny you should say that, the megs gold class shampoo i have doesn't make many suds at all. It doesn't seem to get rid of the dirt very well either. Ive had to pour double the amount in to get it to wash the car well.

Same with the AG stuff its not that great, but cheap enough.

I've not had any problems with getting my car spotless and with a deep shine even before applying the polish using Zymol shampoo...

Shampoo and dry properly and it doesn't matter what branded shampoo you use, you'll get good results. I like the feel and smell of the Zymol as I rub the body with one hand whilst using a washmit with the other so this works well for me.

that's because the gold class is from the (crap) retail range, check out the detailer range (I use hyperwash for foaming and shampoo plus for washing)

but if you know about swirls and imperfections then you learn why a good shampoo is important ;)

you could get good results with fairy liquid and a sponge if following your principles :D

depends what your area is like, I live on the coast so the air is dusty all the time from the sand, so in that situation I wouldn't as after the rain there would be spots of crap left on it where the drops had settled :(

Been over to detailing world for the first time and have just ordered some stuff for the weekend:

- Collonite 476s
- Clay bar
- fluffy wash sponge
- x2 applicator pads
- some nice buffin cloths.

Have meguiars gold class wash and their gold class polish at home, and a very special car to work on this weekend ;)

Will get pics up :D

Why the long face?

Looks fine and sound quality is 100x better than the BMW CD HU and also offers out of the box USB/Ipod support, currently have a 2GB pendrive connected in the glovebox :)

HU controlled by steering wheel too.
