I don't know how you guys can tell the difference between all the different types of waxes when it comes to shine and depth.

To me, my CG Blacklight looks the same as my AutoGlym HD which in turn looks the same as my AutoBrite Seal.

It's not how it looks, and you are right that they all "look" the same, but what i care about most is protection and the way to tell is how long it stays on. That is easily tested by putting some water on it. The longer the beading stays then the longer it lasts.

Longer = better IMO.

Probably, but knowing if Shell (as an example) was acidic would be useful to know.

I guess the saying, "better safe than sorry" applies here.

You would have to be a ******* idiot to do damage with a rotary. I agree with Gaygle here.

I tend to find that the longer the wax lasts, the less it shines, so it's a trade-off between longevity and finish.

If you're going to a show-and-shine, what do you care if the wax lasts six months? Equally, if all you're after is maximum protection you're not going to be bothered if it doesn't look amazingly shiny after a week.

Of course you won't care if it lasts 1 month or a week if you are after the shine all the time because it will get dirty after a day's driving anyway so you will have to wash and wax more frequently to keep that shine.

However, I don't have time to keep it shiny all the time, i am after longevity. I wash my car about once a month, not once a week.

Although that is not to say that i don't want it to look nice after i am done with it, even if it lasts only a week.

Have a kind of old dog smell to the car so I am guessing the previous owners where dog lovers as noticed scratches on boot plastics. Is the best thing to do get the interior and carpets all steam cleaned or wet wash and vacuumed and then get some enzyme smell remover or the old bowl of vinegar in the car trick or are there some niche products that will do the trick?

Looking good ace, although one thing, get some simonez back to black tyre spray, they will bring up the tyres awesome and also can be used on the dirty side of the mudflaps to make them look sharper.

I just washed my car today using a couple of new products. Have been a user of Autoglym Shampoo for years but used Megs Gold Class for the first time, produces such sick suds compared to AG so i'll be using that from now.

Also I used a carplan extra large microfibre drying towel from halfords which is probably the best thing i've ever bought, I dried the whole car in less than 10 minutes and didn't even have to wring it out as it holds so much water, definitely recommended.
 
Hello guys, some kind person decided to add some key art to my car the other day. I have used T-cut and megs polish and it has got most of it out.

Just a few little bits what seems to have got past the paint. Anything good I could use to at least hide the marks?
 
I can't find my polishing cloths, I'm guessing that a microfibre drying towel won't do the job?

Failing that shall I just use one of those yellow dusting towels and some lint-free cloths? I only have a pack of small lint-free cloths.

Yellow dusting cloths = No no.

I don't see a problem using your drying towel? As long as you're aware it will have polish in... so you'd prob want to wash it.

My DAS 6 Pro arrived yesterday along with 4 Hex pads (orange, green, white and black) and Megs 105 and 205.

I cleaned, clayed, ironX'd and IPA'd the bonnet just now in the hopes of getting some decent pictures. Due to lacking a proper camera and any photography skills the pictures didn't really come out well.

These were about the best i could do.

Its not in horrible condition but when the sun catches it the scratching and swirling is REALLY noticeable. Much worse than you can see in the pictures.

My plan was to start with 205 on the white pad and then work my way up through the pads before using 105 if needed. When it all looks good i'll finish on the black pad with 205.

Sound about right?
