I have little experience in chips, but the general consensus on the many different detailing forums is to clean the area completely, using isopropyl alcohol to remove any grease or wax and then use the touch up pen and over fill the chip. I would use painters tape around the chip as close as you can and then do it to stop it from spreading. Once it has cured, wet sand it until it is as smooth as possible, and then give it a going over with finishing polish.

Anyone got any experience with the Meguiars microfiber correction system, or the Auto Finesse Revive kit?

Have used the AF Revive kit, generated good results on turning a pink car red again but swirl reduction wasn't that good. I 100% blame my lack of skill with a machine polisher however and reckon in the right hands it can give good results.

Guys, I'm looking for a sponge/microfiber mitt.

I tried the microfibre glove from Halfords, it was cack. It was too big and clumsy, I need something small that I can get into the small areas of a motorcycle engine.

Any thoughts?

Not used the full MF system but the MF pads are bloody amazing on a DA. an absolute revelation . I used them with m205 and m105 on some rock hard 80s vw paint and was blown away. Had previously felt I needed a rotary when using foam pads.

So what's recommended to bringing some slightly tired grubby leather back to life then? 2 stages i'd imagine? Clean then feed the leather?

That is what is normally recommended. I use a very weak diluted APC and a dash/vent brush and clean one small section at a time dabbing the residue off with a microfibre just to remove all top contaminants. I then use Gliptone Leather Cleaner and then Gliptone Leather Conditioner with a microfibre applicator. Always comes up great :D

Recommendations for wheel cleaning & protection would be welcomed

Has been a while since I was last on the detailing scene but a new car prompts some new products.

I used to use/have been using AG E&M cleaner to soak/degrease on the wheels, rinsing and then washing with the left over Meg's gold class (after having done the bodywork, 2BM). Sealed with Poorboys wheel sealant periodically.

Is this still a reasonable method & mix of products? The wheels are anthracite so would like them to come up a treat :)

Also, glazes, are these applied post wash & dry to an already polished & protected/sealed paintwork to increase depth/shine/wetness & prolong the existing protection?

E.g: If I washed, dried, clayed, washed, dried, polished, sealed. The following washes would only require a wash, dry & glaze?

Benny, personally for what you're wanting I'd recommend:

Bilberry Wheel cleaner + Iron X
Meg's Gold Class shampoo
Chemical Guys butter wet wax + Hybrid V7 sealent

V7 is something I apply after every wash, it's very easy to work with and you can do the whole car in less than 15 minutes.

Thanks, I'll have a look at those products and get back to you with any questions :)

I need some more snow foam too. I had just used CYC's Super Snow Foam but spotted their PH neutral stuff, is there any real difference/benefit? they're priced the same off the top of my head.

Today is the first day in all memory where I've washed the car in such strong and bitter winds (edit* to the point where the water was being blown right back in my face and I'd have trouble breathing :(). I had one hand in my pocket the whole time in order to keep it from becoming numb from the cold and the hand doing the scrubbing was only kept warm because I used warm water in the bucket.

Anyway, it started raining moments after I finished drying it off and I just went out now to finish the wheels and tyres since it is now dry.

What a faff! Looks good though, looks very good

PH neutral stuff won't (shouldn't) strip off any of you're sealent/wax but others could.

I bought some DoDo Juice clays the other day, by far the best I've ever used, very soft and tacky :)

Top man, thanks.

I've got some Sonus stuff knocking about, been a good 2 years since I properly 'detailed' my car :( given it a quick polish, seal & protection but that's it.

After buying from my dad his car (black swirled to hell)
I gave it a pre wash then a good wash then poorboys black hole & 2 coats of poorboys nutty wax then did the leather with poorboys leather stuff very happy with the result

I'm thinking of ordering one too, although not sure what products to go with it for Aruba blue Audi paint. Oh and a dry weekend would be nice too.

Has any one ever used a detailer in the sussex area? I have quite a few swirls and minor scratches on my sapphire black e46, but I no longer have an orbital polisher and my back is all but good for 5 minutes cleaning cars these days :(

What is a good budget way to get into machine polishing? At the moment I can only use hard polishing but feel its not getting the finish im after.

DAS-6 is what you want, probably the best "budget" polisher there is, still not cheap though maybe £140 for the machine and 3 stage pads/compounds.

If you are starting out though definitely start with a random action polisher rather than an orbital. Much less chance of burning your paint.

Search for clean your car on google and have a look at their packages, that will give you an idea of price.

Meguires microfiber system can be had for 150 and is surely one of the best kits for a home user . If you already own polishes then maybe looking for second hand DAs and getting some suitable pads would be a better option on a budget
