A quick one are these kits avail on the bay for 60-100 quid with the rotary polishing machines and various pads etc worth a go at all? Id buy a DA but 110 quid for a machine and no pads or owt.. seems silly :(

Its for two cars this year mine and when i buy my mrs a car ill be polishing it all up a little

There is a group buy code to take the DAS 6 Pro to £100.

Shine Mate - ERO600 Dual Action polisher

Worth considering this also. I bought it over the DAS6 because it's lighter, less vibration and more nimble, so less of a pain when using it for extended periods and can use it with a 3.5" backing plate. I've been pleased with the results it's provided, and it's more technique than sheer power when it comes to polishing, like using even pressure, covering the area enough times, ensuring the pad doesn't clog up (buy several so you don't have to stop and clean one).

I believe DW05 gets you 5% off CYC. :D

The DAS 6 Pro is worth it. You do need a bit of power behind you sometimes.

Edit: you can use a 3.5" backing plate with it. I use one with mine.

Don't forget you can mess up your paint a lot easier with a rotary than a DA (DA kinda requires effort to mess up), that's why beginners generally use a DA first.

if you're going to polish by hand give Autoglymn Super Resin Polish a try.

If that isn't shifting it then its time for machine polishing.

You could always just try and mask the swirls by applying a wax / sealant to increase the shine and hide them.

What do people reccomend for getting swirl marks out of paint? Will a good polish fix it or do I need a bit more?

The problem is if you want to try to correct the whole car by hand it's going to take ages and be VERY hard work, even with something like Megs Scratch X, followed by SRP. Using a DA and polish might be a bit easier, plus j think Audis have pretty hard paint.

Or spend the same money on equipment to do it yourself (and hence the capability to do it again in the future, instead of a one-off).

Thanks for the link :)

Aye iv been told by a friend who details to avoid rotaries unless im confident and won't stop moving. DA are practically foolproof which is ideal for me.

Right so if i buy a DA (Lets say the Das6 or shinemate)
To do a full polish (remove light swirls mainly)
Apply a hard wax/glaze which is very protective
Finish with that showroom shine

Products needed to do that? And pads

Took the car to my parents' house (bit more space to work!) for its spring "detailing" session today - mainly consisting of a thorough wash, clay, DA if necessary, and wax.

Firstly...

OH MY GOD THE FARECLA CLAY MITT IS THE BEST SODDING THING IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. EVER.

Seriously. If you've not got one, go and buy one now. It actually makes LIGHT WORK of claying the entire car. It took me about as long to do the whole car as it would take me to do one panel with a little clay bar. Absolutely superb thing. Works amazingly well and no marring/scratching either.

ALL HAIL

After that, I checked for swirls/scratches, and decided that the few extremely small/light barely noticeable swirls weren't worth getting the DA out for. So on to the waxing and other little details. All good.

You rate the mit well then?

Got some turtlewax clay bar + spray atm and im out of spray lube and was about to make a solution but this has interested me as it needs a full clay with winter being done now to remove tar and stuff.

Is the method much different ?

Having a black car kinda forces you to be on top of your game :D

I rate it hugely. It's brilliant. You don't need spray lube or any of that lark. I just filled a bucket with a fairly weak solution of washing shampoo and dipped it into that after each panel, much like washing the car with a wash-mitt. It really makes it SO much quicker than using a clay bar. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the random collection of clay bars and lubes that I've amassed over the years, now :D.

Don't get complacent though - regularly check the mitt to make sure there's no debris and make sure you keep the panel nice and wet.

Don't apply any pressure, just keep your hand in and let it glide across the panel. You'll hear it pick up the debris for the first few swipes, then it'll become super-smooth.
