What would be the best product to use on the door pillars that have a matt black vinyl type covering on the outside? these seem to show water marks etc. Really want something to remove these marks/stains and make them clean, but keep the same sheen they have now if that makes sense.

Thanks

You can clean/protect them in the exact same way you would paint, so any polish/wax/sealant. Personally on matt black trim I like to use Aerospace 303 protectant

Just a grab from a few days ago - the difference between paint that's been in storage for over 19 years, and that which has had a splash of T-cut (but no polish).

A world of difference, I think you'll agree - and even after 3 days in the sun, still retaining that finish! :)

Looks a bit more glossy and smooth now, as I've waxed it a few times :)

Thanks for that i will get some on order today ;)

One other question when you polish your car do you tend to polish the whole thing then wax or do you polish a panel at a time and wax that panel as you go ?? was thinking the latter may be better if a chance you might run out of time or the weather changes.

impressive turnaround lashout

i'd love to see that paintwork get a proper machine polish. Have you got any mates with a G220 or similar you can bag a favour from ? i bet it would look lush.

out on interest how did you acquire the rover ?? what exact model is it ? a house not to far from me has had one sitting outside for 7 years wont sell it to me though

I bought it off a club member, it's one of the P5B Coupes with the 3.5 litre Rover V8 :)

Yea MrLOL, the paint probably would come up OK - but there's a lot of damage to it in other places. 41 years takes its toll :)

It depends how much time I have really, but I'll tend to kind of split my car in to thirds, so for example one day I'll do the bonnet, front wings and bumper, another day the front doors and roof then finally the rear quarter and back of the car. If I'm going the full slog (claying/machining/polishing/glazing/sealing) it takes around 2 hours per panel to get it right :(

The beauty of using sealant is that layering gives added protection and finish, so as I've moved on to other parts of my car I've always just given the bits I've done a quick top up of sealant. Started at the front as it is battered by the elements the most, so it is now well protected with around 5 or 6 layers :)

ah :/

photos are good for hiding that sort of stuff. Turn around by hand is impressive though, so you've done well :)

Hello all,

I have a Gen6 Celica GT in red and the spoiler is getting a little too faded for my liking.

I was wondering if you could give me some advice on some product(s) to use to bring the colour back to life.

Budget is as low as possible (struggling a bit this month).

The eventual plan (in a few months) is to get the spoiler and nose resprayed, so i'm looking for a temp fix.

Someone on another forum suggested TurtleWax Safe Cut. Any good?

Hope you can help.

Cheers

Gil.
