Had a go at removing some tar on the side of the ST24 this afternoon...

Auto Glym Tar Remover = £4 odd
Nail Polish Remover = £0.79 off

Nail polish remover actually worked better and faster than the AG ITR. Provided you wipe it down afterwords, works just the same, if not better :)

Me = Happy + Win :)

ive gave up bothering to clean my car, spend a good 1-2 hours on it to have it be dirty again next day, suppose it doesn't help that i have to park my car under tree's :(

Yeh i know how you feel, we have a cement factory close tho our work and the cars get covered in cement dust ... when it rains slightly, it absorbs the dust ... car is then cover in spots of dirt! annoying after you have spent ages on it.

All my previous cars where black which were a right pain but when they were clean they where soooo nice ... got a red car now :D

ive always thought beeding = protected, sheeting = wax/sealent worn off...

Toker what wax/sealent sheets please?! :D

you do get cheaper waxes that sheet, but I'd have to look some up...really expensive waxes like zymol sheet.

a large amount of sealants will sheet, e.g. werkstat acrylic

beading is just a sign that there is high surface tension, it's not a direct indication that a surface is protected.

i think even the cheap megs nxt stuff sheets, although its durability sucks so I wouldn't recommend it

When you guys say sheeting, do you mean this:

?

Because it beads and sheets - the 476s continues to live! \m/

Also, cleaned the automobile today, won't have time over the weekend so decided to do it after work today using some of the snow foam that SoliD gave me - impressive stuff but clearly I'll need to sort out the ratio when I get a proper portion soon.

The results are cleeaaaan though, didn't even have to touch the washmit/shampoo bucket...

your issues with the snow foam are probably more related to the crappy lance they gave you with the jetwash.

this is snow foam

Just got my new car:D, so have ordered a few products to clean it.

I have ordered:

Quik Clay Detailing System
Hyper Wash
Supreme Shine Microfibre (single)
Endurance High Gloss Tyre Protection Gel
Luxurious Lambs Wool Wash Mitt
Scratch X (for scratches and swirl marks).

Would this be the correct order to clean the car in?

1. Wet the car down with water
2. Use the lambs wool mit + the hyper wash to wash the car.
3. Dry car down with Microfibre cloth
4. Use the quick clay detailing system
5. Scratch X to remove swirl marks ect.
6. Auto glym Super Resin Polish
7. Should i get something like a wax or sealant to protect my hard work?

Also with the clay system, I know its sounds stupid but how do you actually use it, do you just use the whole block and go all around the car with it, or can you break it off and use different bits for different sections (I have never used it before)

I'm having a bit of a conundrum about how to maintain my wheels.

At the moment they haven't been touched for over a year. Heavy brake dust. They are 5 spoke, so don't have too many tricky nooks and crannies. They are a painted white finish so you can imagine how quickly they will get dirty.

Obviously I need something to clean them first of all. I can go with the Bilberry wheel cleaner with Meg foam sprayer. But would I be best using a wheel protector like Poorboys wheel sealant applied weekly or just clean the wheels with Bilberry once a week. What would be most cost effective ideally and make life easiest? and would a detail brush be worth the investment like the EZ Detail brush which does seem quite expensive.

Another thing, my car is dark metallic blue. I have been using Poorboys nattys paste wax (bubblegum), but I understand this only lasts 3 weeks. Is there anything on the market, not too expensive, but longer lasting?

Car in question..

These photos were taken when the wheels were new 18 months ago, they haven't looked as good since :(

Cleaned the car at the weekend, decided I really find it such a boring and unrewarding chore. Looked out the window this morning and it's already dirty. :(

Just a wash (AutoGlym Shampoo Conditioner) and wax (Meguiars Carnauba) to get rid all the dust/muck that keeps building up on it.

ok heres a few hints on how to get your wheels clean

1) the tip is to use bilberry only ocassionally, use it initially when you get your wheels spotless, but then only use it again when you've left them a while, or during the winter when they're filthy

2) you can seal the wheels with anthing you like. They are just painted metal, so can be sealed or waxed with anything you would put on a car. Ive used jetseal on my wheels, and topped up with spray detailer every week. Beads nicely and leaves them lovely and shiny. No dedicated wheel sealant needed

3) if your wheels are currently very grubby invest in some clay and give the wheels a good claying to get them spotless. Bilbeery + clay + tar remover shoudl be all you need to get them spotless.

4) the EZ detail brush is the best thing for getting the insides of your wheels clean whilst still leaving the wheels on. A must have imo.

Argh, had a nightmare cleaning my car yesterday because it was so blooming sunny! Ended up with half of the car having soap/water marks and the other half looking nice :( Probably should have gone over it again with just a hose/mitt but didn't really have time.

On a note of wheels - I did recommend G-techniq C5 earlier. I really can't recommend this stuff enough. I had 3 of my wheels refurbed the other week and they are a nightmare to clean compared to my other wheel which had the coating back in september. 10K miles and it's still doing the business - not only does it stop them getting so dirty it makes them so much easier to clean.
