* The Comic Book and Graphic Novel thread *

Image (the publishers of The Walking dead) always offer the first volume at a lower price to encourage you to try it which I think is a great idea.

The compendium is massive and I would imagine not particular easy to read compared to the volumes which are a nice size for reading.

Y The Last Man ---- Not completely taken with this
Sandman ---- Liked Sandman and liked the little cross overs into other known characters
Locke and Key ---- Possibly the weakest of the bunch
Saga ---- A good read but, like Y, not warming to it
Manhattan Projects ---- Actually my favorite of the selection here

Ordered Vol 2 of all the above and added the following

Chew
Prophet
Ex Machina
The Massive

After thoroughly enjoying The Wolf Among Us, I decided to get all the Fables comics.

Worked my way through the first 7 issues yesterday, loving it! :D

I quite like the compendiums but they do take up a fair amount up on my bookshelf.

Just read Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Avengers. An enjoyable read.

I'd have to say that Y doesn't have any real stand out single books, but the story as a whole is excellent

You've just read book 1 I take it? Don't get used to the crossovers - there's almost none of that in the later books, and even then you'd need to be fairly well up on Vertigo stuff to pick most of them.

Doesn't stop Sandman being one of the best books ever written mind ;)

Has anyone else subscribed to the Judge Dredd Mega Collection. - http://www.judgedreddcollection.com/

£10 every 2 weeks for a hardbound graphic novel, around 250-350 pages per issue.

Had my first 3 issues, America, Mechanismo and Apocalypse War, might impressed with the quality of the issues and the styling for the covers.

They're planning 80 issues, the spines will make a nice big image when it's complete.

I was collecting the case files but there is so much dead weight with the stories in those, at least this will hit all my favorite arcs.

I'm really tempted - I have a couple of the case files, but you're right, there's so much rubbish around each decent story. Sounds like Rebellion had decent input into it too.

Y The Last Man V2 - Not sure if I'll get V3. Its OK just find it boring
Sandman V2 - Another good volume. Good story in this one
Locke and Key V2 - Still on the fence with this.
Saga V2 - Other than the girl reminds me of my ex, minus the wings. Good story.
Manhattan Projects V2 - My favorite by far from this lot. I like the alternative future.

Chew - Will get V2 no question. Do like this
Prophet - A whole volume that explains absolutely nothing and sex with freaky creatures. Unlikely to buy V2
Ex Machina - One of the most boring comics I've ever read. Not buying V2 of this.
The Massive - Not further up the boring stakes than Ex Machina. Probably won't by V2

I'm running out of Marvel titles, and halfway through all the Fables, and have some long haul flights coming up.

Can anyone recommend some other titles that are interesting and not too dialogue heavy? Stuff like Sandman is unanimously loved, but it's too much talk for me, I'm still a kid when it comes to comics :p

Why not try some of Image comics offerings?
Not all superheroes, but they can be far better (IMO) than Marvel offerings in terms of story

Yeah Image is full of amazing. Also lots of great Vertigo stuff. Here are a few ideas:

100 Bullets
Chew

Fables
Fatale

I have subscribed. Enjoyed America waiting for #2 now.
