The Countdown Has Begun...... Fallout 3

From the Fallout Wiki:

FalloutWiki said:
Fallout: New Vegas is an upcoming role-playing video game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda Softworks. While New Vegas is not a direct sequel, it will use the same engine and be in the same style as Fallout 3, and is being developed by some of the people who worked on previous Fallout games at Black Isle Studios. It will be set in and around post-apocalyptic Las Vegas. It has a projected release date of Fall 2010 and will be available on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Good God this is going to be a fantastic year for gaming!

Too bad I binned my computer based on the impending death of PC gaming :o

Thread bump.

Just picked this up in a sale, installed it and got started but it just crashes during the intro and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to get it to close.

Played with settings, to no avail. Tried compat. mode to no avail. Thoroughly disappointed, do games/patches not go through any kind of quality control and testing before release these days? :/

It took me a complete Windows re-install to get F3 working, back when I played it.

I tried narrowing it down, removing/replacing codecs, drivers, this that and the other. No dice. A fresh copy of windows (think it was XP at the time) got it working.

Do you use a sound card Tute? F3 seems to have issues with them, my D2X crashed it until new drivers came out for Win7.

F3 and Oblivion are the two worst games I have ever seen for crashes and it's always the people with high spec systems that encounter issues, it's like Bethesda don't realise most PC gamers don't use 10 year old parts.

I run with onboard sound and I would obviously prefer to avoid a full Windows reinstall!

I get the impression that my drivers are almost "too new"; i've tried three different ones but i'm not going to start rolling way back into 2009 as I start to lose stability and performance gains in other games.

Did this happen to anyone?

Went to my house in megaton to get some sleep. When i left my house there was Palladin Hoss outside, he run straight out of the town so i followed him to see whats going on. Anyway not far from megaton he run into group of 3 brotherhood outcasts that killed him in seconds. Searching his corpse I found ~70 .44 magnum ammo and 5/6 scoped .44 magnum pistols. Thought that looked like my collection that i had in the locker back in my house.
Anyways i loaded autosave cos i didn't want him dead and thought he might have more luck without me following him. After I did a quest or two I came back to my house and in the locker where i keep spare ammo and weapons there was No .44 ammo and pistols!!!

And i thought brootherhood were the good guys. :)

Now i can't wait to replay this as a bad guy. :)

Finally got to play it on Friday night... how good is this game?! It also looks amazing everything on ultra, with full AA and MS, never seen a game look as good as this.

I'm about 3 hours in, killed the overseer which upset his daughter(she still like me but was very upset when I left the vault). Got to Megaton got the quest do difuse the bomb, got the quest to blow it up aswell. Ratted out the guy who wanted me to blow it up, saved the Sherrif. Went to the supermarket got the meat and meds and some decent weapons too :)

I'm off to landmine now to collect some mines and hopefully to collect dog(who I'm led to belive can be obtained there.

Shame my Pc had to go back for repair as I love this game, and can't wait to carry on playing it. :)

nah when Bethesda took over they just wanted some heroic knights in shiny plate armour, in the originals the brotherhood where very morally ambiguous.

They would let innocents be slaughtered if they where outsiders and they thought it served them best to not interfere but they would also help you take on the military base if you could convince them it was best for them/their current strategy would not work.

They where never heroes who help the locals the outcasts are closer to the original BoS.

The VATS combat system has also been tweaked, allowing for melee attack commands. Just don't expect a massive difference in the way the successful targeting system worked in Fallout 3.

Love is over.

VATS was hideous. A failure. Manure. If they are using the same utterly rubbish system in New Vegas, I'm done being interested in it.

OK, VATS isn't compulsory, but without replacing it, FO:NV is just another shooter.

Fallout was always supposed to be an RPG, not a damn shooter. So I was hoping the the New Vegas team would make it less a shooter and more an RPG. These are some of the guys who made FO2, after all.

What the hell people. Are we in the era where everything has to be Halo/COD or you just won't play it?

Arse. It's all arse.

Dog Meat can be found in the scrap yard which is a touch south of Minefield. The south east corner of the Scrap Yard to be precise.

RPG = Role Playing Game

Nothing ever said RPG's require things like turn based combat or scrolly text screens of ****ing boredom to be called RPG's. In F3 you take the role of the vault dweller and play through a story whilst leveling up and getting new and better equipment, I can't really think of anything to call that apart from an RPG. Unless New Vegas removes all these features it will still be an RPG.

Take off your rose tinted nostalgia glasses and get over it.

Oh and on VATS, yes it was just a gimick that the designers thought would be fun, I enjoyed it, won't miss it though.

It's not rose tinted glasses. The games we had through the 90s/early 00s were simply better.

They were less shallow than the pap that's peddled these days.
