The Dell 3008WFP Thread

OK.
Got my 3008WFP today.

First impression.
The box was a bit battered ,but the monitor was ok inside. It looked like the courier company had to reseal the box.

Version A02
Running 2560 x 1600 with my 8800GT
No dead pixels.
Looks great.
Image quality great.
Am very pleased.

That's great news! I'm sure you will definately enjoy it.

BTW, are you using the default colours settings or have you changed them? I am thinking of buying a spyder to do it for me...the presets are not everything I expected, but still it's nice to know there are different options available.

At the moment, I am just using the game settings for everything.

What do you guys think of the presets given in the menu...have you found if they have made any difference to yourself? I found that it didn't make any visible differences at all

There's nothing bad going to happen running everything form the default desktop preset right?

You're using DVI and this is on a computer? There should be a big immediately obvious difference between presets...

I have mine on Custom, settings are in my original post near the end, but they could be a little different on each individual display.

I bought a X-Rite eye-one Display 2.
I think if you spend the money on getting this monitor it´s worth the extra for a calibrator.

Help need in deciding between the 3008WFP and the Hazro HZ26wi. I am looking to upgrade from 19” VP191b.

My only concern is how small text will look when working at native resolution 2560X1600 using windows/internet/office with the 3008WFP.

I prefer always to work at native res when using windows, as I have found in the past scaling down can make the text a bit blurry.

Maybe this monitor is better, all reviews I have read seem to like it but I would like some feedback from people who are using this monitor (3008WFP)

The plan is to buy 4870X2 later and run games at the highest Res possible. I using a 3870 at present so should be ok to run the Dell.

I have a 10% off voucher to use and the Dell is on a special this weekend at a great price.
Thanks Simon

With a 30" screen, rather than running at a lower res in windows you'd be better served whacking the DPI up to 150. Also, why the Hazro 26 and not the 30? Is it purely inputs, or something else?

Thanks I forgot abot the Hazro 30 and increasing the DPI.

I feel that I will go with the Dell as the Warranty is better : 4 year next business day exchange compared to Hazro 3 Years one year On-Site Swap-Out with Hazro (2nd & 3rd year RTB)

Anyone think dell will be releasing a newer 30" monitor anytime soon? might buy one soon but then pick another one up around november time if the price is around the same as it is now.

Make sure you budget for a calibration device too, as it's wide gamut and will have very oversaturated colours out of the box.

You never know Dell might have one in production.
The problem is then your faced with a new ver A00 with all it's warts. The 3008WFP is ver A02, so it has had a problems ironed out.

Just got mine home from City Link and running on a 7900GTX at 2560x1600 the picture is fantastic. Definitely a good upgrade from my 2405. Had to locate the Dual DVI Port as was previously on what I thought was the Dual but was the regular DVI port. Was a shock only seeing 1920 x 1200.

Can't wait for the 55nm GTX280 now before upgrade rest of system.

Arrived Ok

First impression, it big!!!

I changed the DPI to 150, I had time to test out at native resolution 2560X1600 so far, but the picture and image quality is fantastic.

I am very happy.

I have changed the default colours and other settings to one's suggested by Mr B.

I tried 150 DPI. Looks great for print and viewing, but for 3D work it takes up too much monitor retail space. Back to 96 DPI

Is xbox360 possible via Component? I have a 360 but not the elite edition. I will purchase a speaker bar for this also, sound from 360 is also transferred via component right?

Hello,

Just wanted to know something about the input lag of this screen.

TFT Central says in its Hazro 30" review (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/hazro_hz30w.htm) that the input lag of the DELL 3008 is just ugly @ 50ms, as the Hazro one is just perfect).

Anyone know about the A02 input lag of the Dell ?
Any thoughts about DELL vs Hazro on the 30" ?

Many thanks in advance :)

3008wfp problem

I am on my secound, about to be third dell 3008 wfp. Problem I am having is that after using the first monitor I bought, the DVI port would stop recieving signals from the tower. I tested the tower and cable with a dell 2407 and no problems. Dell sent me a replacement 3008 and the problem was gone. Now, two months after my replacement, the second monitor is doing the same. No dvi signal and it goes right into sleep mode after the progress bar in vista goes away. I can hear the OS load successfully by the sound card, just no signal.

I've tried adjusting the cable. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and nothing brings up the signal after the progress bar proceeds into the OS. I uninstalled the drivers in safe mode and can get into the OS, just with native drivers and limitations of 800 by 600 resolution which cannot be changed. I am using that until the new monitor arrives which I suspect will work fine. I changed nothing in the last week thought would bring this on.

Has anyone else experienced the dell 3008 DVI port going out? I mean not getting a signal from the computer tower while a backup monitor gets the signal just fine? Doesn't make since unless I got two defective LCDs which had bad DVI ports that eventually failed in one to two months.

thanks for your reply. I am pretty computer savy and I have tried everything to get the signal but after the progress bar goes, I go from a blue LED to amber and no response with NVIDIA drivers installed. Only with no drivers installed does it work. I suspect the monitor is just getting an analogue signal at that point through the DVI cable. I have also swapped out the cables but the same thing happens.
