The Dell 3008WFP Thread

Guys I've sorted the res problem.. thanks for your help. Thing is.. I have no idea why it now works.

Yesterday I went out and bought another DVI cable (identical to the others and supplied Dell one) and it didn't work either. I came back home from work a few mins ago, turned it on and it works fine! Amazing screen.. now where's that Crysis disc got to :D

Good to know it's sorted.

i ment is it ok as in up to your standards,
any noticeable defects like blacklight probs?
power issues? inputlag?

anything thats annying you about the screen :) and how your liking it :)

I was joking smogsy in reply to ihatelag's comment. You were very clear at least to me. I assumed he was joking anyway.

I will report once the 30" is setup.

Just got it up and running, no problems at all :) full res too with the dual link dvi... nearly had a heart attack at the start...because I didn't see no post screen...then I flicked through each input and it worked :P

Once I logged in, the PC was at my old resolution, then I set it using the ATI control panel, and now it looks awesome!

Now....my problem is that I stuck in the blue disc from Dell and there's nothing on it...it's...empty :eek:

Do I need some drivers or something, because I feel my monitor is good to go :)

I havent ever needed a monitor driver myself (with smaller Dell panels like the 20 and 24" but maybe with this one it might help

Im sure under the Dell/support site they should have a download

edit - just thought that it MIGHT help having a driver if you thought the colours needed calibrating properly, but if you are totally happy I wouldnt bother :)

No driver needed, calibration on non pro screens like the Dell use the graphics card LUT (you need to start spending 2x the cost of the Dell to get programmable in-screen LUT, and even then it handles the calibration indipendent of the computer by having the colorimeter plug straight in).

Cool :) I didn't understand much of that, but I went to the dell website (dell.co.uk) and I looked for drivers and the only one available is for the lower model 3007WFP, I haven't seen anything for the 3008WFP.

If anyone has any links for 3008WFP let me know...I wouldn't mind reading their tech details to know what they have added and what reason they have released it if any.

Edit--- Quick Question--
A quick question, I can play my PS3 on this monitor right? I just need to plug the HDMI cable that came with the monitor in to my PS3 and attach the other end in the monitor...I guess it's just that simple right? Don't want to go and blow up my PS3 (or even monitor) by plugging in the wrong cable... somehow :p So...basically there's no need for any other special cable or settings etc right?

Edit x 2 ----
I think better give some feedback of my experiences so far:

I noticed that whenever I switch between videos I run from the PC, the monitor seems to go through a refresh mode where the funny sign on the top left shows up letting you know whether you're using HDMI or a DVI or VGA etc.

This is more prevalent when for example you want to run a video from your PC and you click on the video, you will find on occasions when moving to full screen mode, the monitor will refresh and post back what method you are using to view the video.
I was running one of my anime videos and sometimes it does struggle at full resolution to pick up and go right in to it. I think the monitor is configuring something on the fly to accommodate the video I guess.... although... If I have a long playlist of videos, I find that whilst watching the videos continuously, the problem with the monitor refresh doesn't happen.

Anyway, excluding this monitor refresh type of thing, the overall experience with the monitor is fantastic.

Ok fair enough - :)

Thanks for the correction

.

That is correct for video - I dont believe the 3008 has any kind of speakers however so you will need spdif from the ps3 for sound (unless you can go through hdmi amp for sound and graphics and then only one cable from the ps3 will be necessary

My 24" and 20" Dell do that also - not 100% of the time but certainly noticable, not entirely sure why but can be a little frustrating at times (when there shouldnt be any necessity to check /reconfirm it)

What do you guys think of the presets given in the menu...have you found if they have made any difference to yourself? I found that it didn't make any visible differences at all

There's nothing bad going to happen running everything form the default desktop preset right?

Heya, sorry for the silly question, just need to confirm something:

I have 2 x single dual DVI cable...

1 x http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-127-BE

1 x Dell DVI cable

At the moment I am using one cable (the belkin).

Do I need to plug the Dell cable in as well to the monitor and the graphics card? (3870X2) so I have to cables running to my single 30" monitor? Don't want to plug it in and find my monitor blows up somehow lol :p
I see no problems with one cable running videos and games....except I reached a hitch with Crysis...the menu's don't seem to work on the higher resolution...which is why I am asking the question about the second dvi cable :p

OK.
Got my 3008WFP today.

First impression.
The box was a bit battered ,but the monitor was ok inside. It looked like the courier company had to reseal the box.

Version A02
Running 2560 x 1600 with my 8800GT
No dead pixels.
Looks great.
Image quality great.
Am very pleased.
