The disappearance of Nicola Bulley

Same, and I think I've caught up now!
You are wanting (if possible) some evidence that a significant proportion of suicides are the planned out type (sorting wills, finances etc before) rather than the ones that happen as a result of various mental health conditions where the person is not capable of doing that.

Yeah but it's okay.i understand now you are coming from your experience like mine with first hand mental health understanding, there are rational and irrational behaviours which can be delusional and impulsive .I just think there should be more mental health awareness so its good it can be talked about.

You think it’s appropriate to title her as a menopausal alcoholic who had recently required a police visit to home? In the national media?

It's not the 70's there is a lot less stigma around mental health now - its hardly a character assassination.

I often get Police messages on my Timeline of missing persons and they usually mention the state of mind and other stuff.
In this case it was a large omission because a lot of people were naturally thinking she's been abducted & murdered and the Police have had 1000s of wasted phone calls.
Of course she could still have been abducted & murdered.
If I collated evidence & records for a court case, which I do weekly, and left that type of thing out it would be a huge omission.

I think you have used the term "Character Assasination" incorrectly, because it was not done out of malice. What they've done is air her dirty laundry in public.

The issue is that this case became too big for its own good. With almost 24 hour coverage on every little thing the police are doing and armchair detectives, deciding to leave the comfort of their armchair. They were kind of forced into releasing more information, to quell the rampent speculation.

Surely the time has come to disband many public services and move into the digital age.

Policing, sentencing, even medical diagnosis are all easily handled by simple public consensus. With modern technological developments we're now able to fully harness this valuable resource and do away with such costly and ineffective professions.

And it is just a rounding error if we get it wrong and vilify someone to the extent they commit suicide.

Absolutely, this idea she lived an idyllic life that everyone should aspire to was just that, an idea. It seems when faced with reality many people would rather bury their head in the sand and believe the facebook image rather than the truth.

Slight correction. He was already dead at the time of the bombing. It was actually his family who were attacked by the reddit mob. I believe the family at the time had no idea what had happened to their son as they were getting swarmed by strangers online.

Though there are cases where what you described has happened.

I suspect the police really didn't want to release that much personal information but lets break it down.

She had an alcohol problem if the police are to be believed - that means that the risk factor from accidents is increased by potentially a huge extent, so pertinent.
She was suffering from "brain fog"* related to the menopause - Which means potentially her ability to process information was affected, as with the ability to process risks, so pertinent.
She'd had a police "wellness" visit recently - means there had been concerns for her enough for the police to act previously. Very pertinent and explains a lot about the high level and fast police response to her going missing.

I strongly suspect the police only released the information because all the nonsense speculation from the public was adversely affecting the investigation, or causing the police to have to redirect resources to things like stopping brain donors from trespassing and calling for people to break into local properties.
They've tried to protect her dignity for two weeks, but all that resulted in was people stating that the partner murdered her, or that's she's obviously been abducted and is being held in the nearby abandoned (not) house etc, and had to deal with the likes of youtubers who've been busy trampling around people's gardens at night "looking for her" - something that has probably resulted in a multiple call outs from the home owners (given they've apparently warned, and now arrested and fined one such youtuber for doing it).
It was getting to the point there I wouldn't have been surprised if someone else got hurt either by accident, or on purpose whilst either looking for her, or "trying to get answers" from someone.

*"Brain fog" can be utterly horrible and result in you making stupid decisions and really basic but dangerous mistakes just moving around the house, let along near open water.

I'm not sure a character assassination of a missing person in the national press is the wisest of choices?
Didn't they have to release it as those dirty rag newspapers were going to print it as they had been digging for dirt from anyone who may have known her.

I think the police should have said something along the lines that "she had issues that may have contributed to her disappearance". There was absolutely no need to publish all the details.

Yep. A lady who completed treacherous sporting endeavours who was the childhood best friend of my wife inexplicably walked in front of a train.

I don’t think that would have the affect you think it would. People would probably start speculating on what those issues are and start digging up her past.
