The Division. Are we interested?

I'm sure the game will look good once out on PC with all the settings turned up but that still won't change the fact that ubi lied with the initial footage/details and the thing that I don't get is why exactly can't they give PC users the e3 2013 game? Surely we should have the PC power considering it is 3+ years later and we have considerably more powerful GPU's etc. than in 2013?

While I disagree with the free game etc, this point is quite pertinent. Why can't we get the same quality as in the 2013 build - the best GPU in 2013 was what, 680? Maybe 780 (none ti). Looking at Tomshardware's index, 980ti is as much as twice as powerful as the standard 780, 3 times the 680.
So PC's have plenty more power potential than 3 years ago - if it could run on a PC, even quad SLi 780s, back in 2013 then why can't those settings be applied today. People wanting to max would require 2 Ti's -- so sure, most people wouldn't be able to max them - but the option would be there. And that's sort of a worst case scenario assuming quad sli. What if it was only 2 780s? So a single 980ti to max is far from unacquirable to max a game.

Like some star wars battlefront screenshots someone posted on here... those look "staged" and photo shopped but happy to be proven wrong as they do look like the 2013 footage although with jackfrags etc. saying that the PC footage they saw, it wasn't anywhere as good as the 2013 game in terms of detail, amount of objects etc. so we will just have to wait and see....

Exactly.

there's one thing that's really bugging me about this. Why the secrecy beyond not showing any PC material even when the NDA has been lifted? What they hiding, if you wanna appease the army out there, then show some PC material. This kinda thing only says one thing to me, they don't want a **** storm early from PC gamers.

And another thing, these screenshots, no HUD's or anything, probably ingame CG sequence or something. Not gameplay is it.

Because it just isn't that simple. You'd basically have to run two entirely different graphics development paths for console and PC versions, which would be extraordinarily complex and ultimately limits resources because you cut out a huge percentage of the development team that is doing work relevant to the version you're working on.

You can call that 'lazy', but it's really not. It's practical and necessary. You are always limited somewhat by the lowest common denominator. It's why cross-gen games usually do not look as good as fully next-gen games and why PC versions rarely ever have any sort of generation gap in quality compared to their console counterparts outside of arbitrary aspects like resolution and framerate.

EDIT: Another important thing to know is that not everything about the graphics can be distilled into a settings slider. A PC game cant just target high end users, so it needs to have the base requisite of being playable on lesser PC's as well, or else you are needlessly limiting your potential market. No publisher wants a Crysis-like situation.

Probably the fact that the PC version puts the console versions to shame graphically :p

Going by those 4k screens anyway. It's looking good so far.

HUD can be disabled it seems.

^^
Yep.

They don't want the PC to cannibalise console sales so they keep quiet about it for as long as possible in the hope people will have already pre-ordered the console version and will just stick with it.

It's only a week away for the beta we can judge it for ourselves then. You are getting too anxious :p

PC gamers are small fish in a big pond compared to consoles so it's understandable to show footage recorded on the mainstream platform.

Regardless of there being no HUD etc. jackfrags has said that the footage they saw wasn't as good as the 2013 graphics and to me.... that screenshot looks like a screenshot from the 2013 version.

Mentions it at 1:10

*must resist from talking* AHHHH

Snap! Me too, crossfire. And had to buy another psu to run them both. This game is already expensive for me. :D

I've been waiting so long for this, the hype train has been killing me. I've now made the decision to go Sli and upgrade to 21:9 for it. If the SO knew what I spent on my new rig, she'd hit the effin roof. :D

Anyone got any spare codes going please, that would be awesome to try before a buy?

thanks in advance

Not sure why you wanted a code Tony, as you seem to have made your mind up before even seeing it run on a PC.
