The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

streamlined interface

That ALWAYS stands out streamlining, if you ever see that mentioned it means it's more towards the console gamer and not the pc!

That doesn't mean it won't change from now until release. The funny thing is, Morrowind was a great game, but the combat sucked. A lot of people seem to forget that - much of what was changed in Oblivion was based on feedback from the community. The rest was fixed by mods within the first couple of days.

Ok CaptainRAVE keep smoking that pot :D:p

I don't remember anything being changed with oblivion in development because of the community, tell us what changed?. If anything the game turned out worse than what expected!

The same voices for many of the characters, Radiant AI that fell on it's arse(the dog part that didn't happen), same dungeons throughout e.t.c

although it sounds so terrible that the ui is designed for consoles, don't forget the if they designed if for pc's then the people on console would have no choice but to use a ui not designed for them, where as the way they're doing it is people console get a good ui, and then a week after release people on pc get a million different ui's to choose from so everyone wins. pc gamers need to get over themselves me thinks. the game will be better on pc because of mods. if the dev's spent time making it perfect for pc then it'd be wasted as the game would still be modded many times over to be something else. they're making it a good game for conosle, a good game for pc, and then give the ability to make it even better on pc.

Dragon Age has seperate style of ui's for console and pc

Or just make 2 ui's like games used to?

yeah ok maybe make 2, but there will be many mods out within weeks which changes it any way so why waste time as the standard will work fine with both pc and console. they know it, we know it. just a few days and we'll get a better ui. seems fine to me.

well unless the don't release the mod tools until la few weeks/months later.

But if you're goign with "well we'll release something that is substandard someone else'll fix it" why bother making the game just release the tools and say get on with it.

i guess i do agree with you that it's odd that they'd not release 2 ui's, my point i'm trying to make is it's such a small thing which will get sorted. they are making something they think will work fine on both but better on one type that can't change. to me that's fine as i know if it's so bad i'll just use a mod to fix it. i'd rather they make the game better in other areas that are harder to change. thinking about it from their view must be hard to justify spending money on changing something which will get modded any way

Just the fact that it is another Elder Scrolls game will be enough for me to buy it on release day. Have never had a problem with previous UIs and I loved Oblivion and Morrowind.

Thats besides the point now isn't it. If 1 modder can make a new and decent UI without being familiar with the tools, it should take Bethesda even less time unless they employ a bunch of monkeys. They do the bare minimum and thats it. Its not as if they don't have hints on what people want. All they'd have to do is dl a DarnUI.

Why justify making anything then? Mods change the levelling system (since both Morrowind and Oblivions system was crap). Mods add and modify monsters. They add towns and quests. Hell why not just call it Garrys Mod: The Elder Scrolls edition.

As much as I love the Elder Scrolls, I have an overwhelming feeling that this game is gonna be crap and completely destroy the series.

Thats pretty much what happens to every PC game that gets dumbed down to the point that Cleetus Joe can easily play it without having to strain any brain cells.

Indeed. It sounds as if they've tried to remove all thought required for actually creating a character and simply let you master everything at will.

I'm gonna have to go grab the nGCD levelling mod for Oblivion and give it a go, see how it feels compared to Oblivion XP... unless i manage to get back into Morrowind. Dunno why but everytime i try it just never seems to work, though this time i'm using GCD and a graphics and sound overhaul.

Yeah, I'm thinking at best I'll only enjoy this after the modding community has had at it for months. At worst I'll totally avoid it, like... someone avoiding something :o

Im guessing that Two Worlds 2 will be a nice replacement for ES V, and its already out.

Im having plenty of fun with Magicka atm too.
