The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

a shield on his back, staff in one hand and sword in the other. could we do that in oblivion?

No but then that is clearly not in game footage. Its already been said that you can assign different weapons to different hands, ie sword and staff, sword and shield, sword and sword. The shield on the back is probably just to make it look better for the image.

I still don't hold out much hope for a decent UI...

*Ahem*, I think this is the most interesting pic:

Dark Elf Magic Stats

Love the new UI for stats!

And who cares what the game looks like at the start when you have mods!

Thats the same 1 thats been floating around for ages. Problem is all it does is look flashy. Its not functional in the slightest. After a few hours the 'awesome' background will become ignored and you'll start to realise that the UI actually shows **** all. It doesn't show all the skills at once so you've got to mess around scrolling through and it just emphasises the fact they dumbed it down by removing attributes...

Yeah, I'm thinking at best I'll only enjoy this after the modding community has had at it for months. At worst I'll totally avoid it, like... someone avoiding something :o

I didn't play Oblivion until I was able to mod it. Morrowind too. I'm happy to wait awhile to get a game I'm happier with.

They removed attributes? That's seriously lame...

I seem to remember it being mentioned they did yes. They instead made Health, Magicka and Stamina directly connected to your skill levels (and level) so they will readjust the moment you get a skill increase. 1 hell of a dumbed down system.

Either way, been playing a little Oblivion today. Decided to start again as a Warrior born under The Warrior (much like my Mage born under The Mage and my Assassin born under The Thief, original eh :D).

I can only hope its not too hard to change the system back to something that doesn't suck.

That's what i'm thinking too. Oblivion looked great with mods on my rig years ago and that was only with an At 850xt, dual core Opteron or something along those lines.

I really should give it a try again while waiting for this one as we're a few generations of PC down the line since then.

Because we all know changing numbers= gameplay.

I'm all up for it if it makes the experience better.

Considering I never played Oblivion with any mods, I don't really care about mod support for this.

Not our problem you don't know what you're missing. Only reason to not try out mods for Oblivion is shear stubborness, unless you actually expect us to believe you think Oblivion is the perfect game with no room for improvement.

But then you seem completely ignorant of the real issue anyway.

Speaking of the lack of stats... how is carry capacity being worked out on this game?
