The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

hello I have a question about trading. How do I get the best prices for my goods? Im level 13 and my house has a load of loot and other things that I want to trade in for the best prices. Are there any tips or tricks for this?

Thanks!!!

Built a new PC but use an Xbox pad?

Well I did try mouse and keyboard just like I used for Morrowind and Oblivion, but it's obvious that this game is more geared towards a controller IMO. Also, I find that the pad control for looking around is a lot smoother and a more "cinematic" experience gameplay wise whilst exploring.

Just installed a few mods which fills out the tree's more and adds more grass... makes a huge improvement! (Lush grass and Lush tree's)

The Speech skill tree has perks that improve trading.

Good god, you won't be able to find the sabre cat even after its gnawed your leg off!

Short of fortify barter potions and equipment (and the Zenithar shrine buff) theres nothing more you can do. Unless you're willing to invest perks into Speech anyway.

Got this for Xmas and am loving it. So far at least, I'm thinking it's one of the best games I've ever played. When you consider I'm nearly 38 and hard to impress, that's really saying something :D

Also amazed at how well it runs. I've got everything on high, all the effects on, high draw distances and 16x AA  Granted, I use a fairly low res (1366x768) but still...very impressive.

Does that not mean I lose everything?
In normal circumstances, when you go to jail you can either serve your time and then you will get back everything on release other than stolen items, or use a lockpick to break free and look for a chest somewhere that will contain all of your items. I find it best to just serve the time, it amounts to the same as sleeping as far as I know and your bounty will be gone when you are released. Escaping jail means you keep your bounty and will most likely gain more bounty during the jail break. If you're concerned about losing items you can store all of your stuff in one of your houses before you talk to an officer.

I say in normal circumstances, because I'm fairly sure in your situation, going to jail actually starts a new questline. The guards not accepting your offer to pay the bounty is the games way of saying you should go to jail.

I assume that only happens if you have a big enough bounty.

Staying in jail removes current progress through skills (the tooltip during loading screens tells you that) but I've no idea how fast it goes down. Any skill thats just levelled will be fine though. Other than that I doubt there are any implications.

If it's the quest I have in mind the guards won't accept you paying it off no matter what the amount is.

Guess it makes sense that some amount of progression is lost when serving time, in that case it comes down to how close you are to levelling whether or not it's worth doing.

So I've been playing this game for weeks and only just discovered you can zoom in and rotate inventory items, lol. Thing is, how? I click on an item in the right window, like say a book, and hold mouse down but nothing happens.

Haven't played Skyrim for a couple of days now due to all this Christmas Malarkey! Finish nights in a few hours for a couple of nights so hope to get back to it today after some sleep. Sometimes I just crave for a dungeon crawl!

So uh I was exploring the wilderness when I stumbled upon something..or someone..

I think that vid highlights for me that screenshots really don't do the game justice tbh, I am yet to see a nice looking screenshot for the game, but a vid(even at 360p) looks much better. I am often taking screenshots thinking it looks amazing, then when I look at them again they look completely dull!

Bit of a noob question, should you follow the main story line up to a certain point before doing your own thing?

Spoiler alert
I've just helped the women who turned out to be a blade and returned the horn to the greybeards, learning the last word of force shout

So far I've learnt nothing about soul gems, I know their used for enchantments, but I have no idea how to fill 1.
I've logged about 15 hours into the game and I've done quite a bit of exploring and dungeon crawls, but I get the feeling I've been running before I could walk.

You can go about it however you like tbh, you don't lose out on any quests by advancing a questline(apart from an obvious one where you have to choose a side). As for a break in the main quest for exploring(i like to do this as well) you are probably at a decent point atm, also there is a good point later in the main quest line where you are asked to find someone with little indication of where he is, I did quite a bit of exploring at taht point and got quite a few sidequests done). Also, the game continues after the main quest ends, so if you wanted to you could go straight through it(not to everyones taste though).

As for Soul gems, you fill them by using the spell Soul trap, or with an enchanted weapon which traps souls after a creature is killed.

Here is a useful article on soul gems

Also FYI there are spoiler tags now;)

Yeah I know what you mean. Most of mine turn out rubbish, but what i'm seeing in game looks great. I think the swaying leaves and bugs flying about etc adds a lot to it. Also it doesn't help that steam takes low quality jpg images. Not sure if Fraps is any better?

It helps if you adhere to the rule of thirds and keep the horizon straight, as you are basically taking a picture.

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks this. I came across the same bathers and took a screen shot (haven't got the 'kit off' mod though, lol!). The characters looked like one of those balloon tricks you see at kids parties!
