The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Having watched the gameplay footage, am I the only person that thinks the horse riding animation looks like garbage?

It looks like he's riding a fat donkey. That's a bit 'special'.

They don't seem to have done the most basic research into horse movement. There are four gaits in increasing speed, walk, trot, canter and gallop, what bizarre movement that horse is doing I will never know.

^

Yep, noticed that too. Always annoys me how 99% of games in which you can ride a horse, the horse ends up being a big clumpy oaf of a thing with no grace. As it is at the moment, it looks absolute garbage.

Horses should be slender, muscular and have lots of movement about them, rather than a very flat gallop animation that just very loosely resembles a horses legs.

Age of Conan got it right:

That animation is quite poor also, the transition between gaits is not at all realistic. A horse does not go back and forth between walk and gallop like that, in fact it would not even be able to pick up a gallop in such a short distance or maintain one at that speed.

Bethesda should study some videos of movement.

I never noticed these beggars using multiple voices thing in two playthroughs

Then you never spoke to them. Pretty much any NPC that can say a rumour will swap to some completely random tone of voice that has nothing to do with there character and it really breaks the flow of things. Its the fact that they have no limitations on what they can say, any character can say any rumour so long as it was recorded by that voice actor.

Well that's a given. Obviously it would have to come to a more gradual start/stop, but I'm assuming they made it like they did for gameplay reasons as it's an MMO and all. However based on the animations they have for the rider, turning, weight ditribution etc. I'm sure if they had wanted to include the correct movement over distance relation, they would have done it perfectly. I was really comparing the actual walk/trot/gallop/turn animation rather than the start and stop.

As it is, it's leaps and bounds ahead of ESV

I'll believe it when I see it. Marketing bs is always the same.

The real question here is what exactly is the baseline? Bigger and better than Shivering Isles? That would be something. Bigger and better than Horse Armour? Nah perhaps not.

I vary depending on the game tbh. For example with Assassin's Creed Revelations, Deus Ex and BF3 i would like a digital copy(but only on steam) but Skyrim and Witcher 2 i prefer a physical copy for some reason.
The Witcher 2 is the only physical copy i have bought in the last couple of years.

I can't see them going with GFWL again. It depends if they were the ones who had the say in Steamworks or if that was up to the developers themselves. I suspect it was Bethesda who had the say on Steamworks though so we might get lucky.

Separate developers, so I'd have thought Beth had some input. Though it could all just be a coincidence.

Either way, hopefully Beth have seen the better points of Steamworks from working with those devs. I'd have thought they'd be quite keen to use it to deliver DLC to a bigger audience than GFWL.
