The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

I am still running the unpatched version as I haven't connected my games PC to the internet since installing it.

Seem to have loads of Dragons now I've started the main quest.

I have a bloke buried up to his waste just outside Whiterun, is this normal or am I supposed to throw stones at him?

Any advantage to patching it up this afternoon?

I think he is the guy whose horse you recovered in Riften? I also saw him stuck in the ground, and after a while there was two of him there.. lol

I am a bit stuck on the Boethiah's Calling quest.. anyone can advise me?

Not wanting to sacrifice a decent follower I have tried directing a hired follower and a brawl contest follower, but neither will activate the Pillar.

I really wanted to get this done to upgrade my Ebony Blade.. but then again, you are supposed to use the Blade of Sacrifice, not the Ebony blade for that quest? so how does that work? Wiki is vague on the subject.

I just realized that in the Bethesda Games such as Fallout 3/NV and Oblivion, if you were being chased and left an area (loading screen), the pursuers used to follow you through and chase you. This hasn't happened in Skyrim to me yet, they now just stay behind, sometimes waiting for me to return. Have you had someone follow you through?

You can also trigger it by killing all of the bad guys at the camp. You sometimes have to do this anyway as the quest is buggy.

It does work with any follower, you just tell the follower to activate the pillar and then they get held against it. Then you have to kill them with the blade of sacrifice.

Thanks Mark,
I tried about 3-4 disposable followers but no joy, then killed everyone in the camp and the Daedra spawned and asked me to find a follower to kill.. so no result really. Might have to sacrifice someone decent.

Anyone else having trouble loading Skyrim this morning? Steam loads, but none of my games will launch.

Looking to start a decent session of dragon slaying on my day off, but the plan has stalled somewhat.

I had that problem last night. Try restarting steam. Happened with both SpaceChem, then I restarted and it worked, and later on Skyrim too even after it had reconnected.

Separate thread just been started which says that apparently Steam is having major issues this morning with most games not starting.

Oh well, hopefully they'll sort it out fairly soon.

Just got the game and playing through the intro/tutorial at the minute. Didn't have a clue what race to choose, not sure on my playstyle yet.

I wouldn't mind a character who would make an awesome spellcaster and can wield a bow reasonably well (emphasis on magic though). Any suggestions? I chose Wood Elf, would I be better as a High Elf or something different altogether?

Read this, wish I'd found it when starting out! Maybe I wouldn't have done what the first NPC said to do, which was to split up. So we go our seperate ways and I miss the guardian stones which get your skills quicker. Only to find that guide 10 levels and many hours into the character.

Exactly what I was looking for. Never played one of these games before, need all the help I can get but looking forward to it. Cheers.

Dark elf will probably be better, plus they look bad a**!

Just found a cracking spell last night, in the Alteration school:

Transmutate :D

What it does, is turn any iron ore you have handy... into silver ore!

And wait, it gets better - it also transmutes any silver ore you have, into Gold ore!

*wanders off to find some more iron mines, to make a truckload of gold jewellery.*

Now all I need is somewhere to spend my 200k gold... I'd buy a house in Whiterun but its' so badly bugged I daren't even try the console commands to start the pre-quest!

I've been playing my second character (Khajiit thief/assassin) the past few days, and it's insane how much pickpocketing levels you. I've played for about 15 and a bit hours, and I'm already somewhere near level 30, with pickpocketing at aroung 95. By comparison, my Nord ranger that I've played for over 100 hours is only 45 or so. Admittedly I did more exploring as my Nord, but still, pickpocketing is so easy to level it's crazy, a level per piece of jewellery or so.

Pickpocketing levels with the value of the item that you've stolen, not the number of items stolen.

So if you go around pilfering enchanted rings and jewellery, yeah it does level stupidly fast.

I'd reckon a game-balancing patch would be to at least 1/2 the levelling speed, or apply a 'max' value to the item pickpocketed, such as 100 gold.

Adding an 'improve pickpocket' necklace and/or ring, and with high pickpocket skill you can basically steal what you want, off whoever you want!
