The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Wow! Blackreach is mahoosive!

yeah, I went there and forgot what I was supposed to be looking for and "cleared" the place.. found my 30 Crimsons too, then finally found the objective lol. Spend a looong time there and left once or twice to sell loot. The quest marker was useless, totally misleading.

SPOLIERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

How far am I into the main quest. I am ast solitude after just going to the dragon burial site and witnessing the dragon being borught back to life. I think im lvl 15 or something?

I dont wanna finish the main quest to early so not sure to continue ro do some other things.

Congratulations on your use of spoiler tags...

Why are people so hesitant about finishing the main quest early? It makes absolutely no difference to the dragon spawn rate does it? Unlike Oblivion where reaching a certain point started Oblivion Gates spawning, a little further increased them even more, and later on it stopped them completely and closed all existing ones.

Luckily I am passed that part, but agreed. People really need to use the spoiler tags.

Don't get it either, the main quest is literally just another quest in Skyrim, it's a tiny percentage of the overall experience just the same as any other individual quest is.

Not one of the thought provoking moments I had in Skyrim came from the main quest.

Probably because the end of the main quest feels like the end of the game for most games. The outro video plays, the credits roll and the story comes to an end.

Because in almost any game when I finish the main quest, I stop playing. For me it feels as if there is no purpose playing once I've saved the world, so I get bored.

If this were Fallout 3 without Broken Steel (or a mod) then yes I could understand, but its not and the main quest is essentially just another quest in your log to do at your convenience.

If this were Dragon Age: Origins sure, where the only thing you can do after finishing it is do some DLC in the off-chance you didn't do them before and there really wouldn't be any point in doing it. Such a concept really doesn't apply to TES (or FO3/NV) and particularly not Skyrim where it seems there is nothing to lose from completing it. If you aren't doing the main quest, which as you say is 'saving the world' then what are you playing for? There is absolutely no difference between having the main quest but avoiding it and doing other stuff and finishing it and doing other stuff.

Yup a different quest, but you won't receive it until you pick one out of the ground in blackreach. They are the same, but a crimson colour. You won't miss the first one.

Was strange seeing two dragons at once, but was awesome!

I keep hearing about how blackreach is massive, haven't discovered it yet though. :)

Anyone made use of the Lanterns found all over skyrim? Do they do anything?

It's psychological and I think it applies to more players than you think. When I played rage and finished it, none of the extra side quests I could have done interested me anymore. Game was done and dusted as far as I was concerned. Klo is right in that once a main story has concluded and the world has been saved, then for many players everything else becomes rather pointless. But before the main quest is done, we are still inspired to do side quests. It's all in the mind really. I'm hoping when I've done the main quest that I want to continue the game, but I don't know until I've finished it and yes, I've been avoiding it too. I suspect I'll continue as it's so epic.

.

But with this being the first ES game I have played how would I know that this game is like that? The only other open world type games I have played are Stalker and that ended once you finished the main quest.

I actually completed it not long after finding out that nothing changes once you do.
