The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Granted, some of the animations do look very much like oblivion, but even if this was very similar to Oblivion, i would still be very much looking forward to it!

I always try to look at the positives before i actually play a game. Unlike some people who jump on every little bit of info that could even remotely be seen as in the slightest bit negative and use it to moan about it without playing it (that wasn't directed in any way at you btw Lejosh)

Take DA2 for example, in the official thread it was clear befrore the game had even been released that everyone had already made up their minds based on every report made up by anyone on the internet. I tried to defend it, saying that everyone should at least give it a chance and try to be positive about it. In the end, after i played it i joined in with the lambasting of it because it really is pretty bad, but i gave it a chance. I get the impression that the same thing is happening here as well.

In summary, Look on the brightside guys! :p

I understand entirely, there will be aspects that I enjoy and no game is perfect. However, I can't really make my entire judgement based on a couple clips.

I do try to be positive with regards to games, especially PC games but it's getting increasingly difficult to do so! :p I think they're holding back a lot so it will be interesting to see other aspects of the game.

And with all this in mind, the modding community will boost the game. :p

I value better graphics over the ability to run something at max. I'll take 30 fps and better graphics over 60 fps and worse. Might just be me, but 30 is completely playable, 60 is nice, but by all means a bonus.

Ive never had to worry about that i always have games at max settings with a very smooth fps;)

They've managed to cram in a lot more objects and the design team have made the environments look ok but I still feel they should have waited till the next gen consoles.

By the time we get the next gen console I suspect the next Elder Scrolls will be ready or not far off. This should tide things over nicely until then :)

Looked ok quite looking forward to it should be an amazing world to explore :)

AI looked a bit glitchy at points. But hopefully thats something they will be working on. Still not sure if I want to splash out the 130quid for a collectors edition though :p

Have they changed the combat system much from oblivion? I played it to death (bar any DLC) and would have had all the acheivments on the 360 version had I not glitched out ON THE VERY LAST QUEST of the fighters guild. Grr.

However, the combat really dragged on me. So clunky and just meh. I've seen trailers of big boss fights with dragons and always thought it would be better if the combat scheme was more third person action.

I think I made the game a bit boring for me though, got full glass armor with 100% chameleon on it. Just ran around to all the big bosses hitting them in the face till they went down :P.

If I do get it though, I'll defo get it on PC this time around (I wasn't specced for oblivion). The one thing I think oblivion lacked was there were no "Epic dungeons". Nothing for you to sit down and power through to get rewarded with some freaking awesome loot. Instead you could do every dungeon at level 1 and level 20. Only difference was you got a different armor class with a generic random enchantment. I heard mods changed all that, really wish I'd been able to play that. I think if they fixed that and the combat (and glitches :X) they could have a really fantastic game.

yeah you always feel detached from the already fairly dull world. elders scrolls has a great big world with lots to do but it never feels epic. i don't know if anyone will agree but it kind of feels like you're just floating through the world rather then interacting with it.

watching the fighting you can see how hard it is still to get a good shot, i can see i'll just end up clicking like an idiot trying to hit something and not really fighting.

Are there any more conventions before launch? Hoping we see some gameplay that isn't the same as the E3 stuff.

I'm sure I'll manage to enjoy it regardless, even if it has that layer of jank.

Edit - The worst thing in the Quakecon footage imo is that npcs still get that stupid glaze when hit by spells. (See the archer + frost)

game looks great, wasnt a fan of oblivion - it just never felt complete. FO3 i loved so hopefully this will be a similar experience.

this stuff is always a little buggy, but there still amazing games despite that.

I wish games like these had a proper hardcore difficulty mode, that made combat more realistic. The combat always just feels a bit bland, with no real sense of danger to it, you just keep smacking/slashing/shooting your enemy until their health bar reaches zero and they suddenly drop dead. The finishers are at least going some way towards making the combat more interesting, but if I slice someone across the neck, I want them to die, damn it! And if I get sliced across the neck, I want to die. Make the fights more about skill, less about who has slightly more health.

Ah well, mods to the rescue, hopefully.
