The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Help.

Im at the level where youre at the embassy and you infiltrate it. You then hang out at a party inside where you meet your buddy to arrange a distraction so that you can sneak out and look for dragon information. I created the distraction, boshed all the guards outside and got the dragon information from the ambassadors office.

Ok...but the Journal still shows "Get information on dragons" (cant remember exact wording)

But I already HAVE that item. Its like Skyrim has not acknowledged that I have it, is this a glitch? What do I do :(

Or more likely... you haven't done the quest because... you haven't found information on dragons yet ><

Got Mjoll the Lioness as a follower now with an Ebony Warhammer, though a little irritating when she insists on using her bloody bow instead of beating them to death the warhammer. Least she switched smoothly for the dragon at Shearpoint. Whenever it was flying around (or more often than not, hovering in the air attempting to burn me to death, which I just blocked and reduced most the damage) she was shooting it with a bow, moment it landed she went for it with the warhammer.
Krosis was fun. Everytime he went to throw a Fireball I'd raise the shield and block most of the damage and go back to beating him down and since he was so fixated on me Mjoll got a free reign to pound him into dust. To say I'm on Master I expected a lot more damage than I was taking... particularly considering I just went and got the Word from Lost Tongue Overlook (south of Riften) and there was some stupid soul gem spell casting beacon which hit me for 230 damage in 1 cast!

Did you read the stuff you picked up? I think you have to read it for the quest to update.

Whoa that was it :D

Mission: complete, cheers m8. Ok lesson learned, if I pick up books, documents etc I need to read them :o

@ Evilsod - do you like those warhammers? They are good at boshing things but I find them unwieldy so I dropped mine. Boshed a guard and got a sword off him, much better.

encountered a very weird thing a few days ago...
I had just gained Shadowmere, and after only about 10 minutes of prancing about with it we get attacked by a dragon on some mountainous area, so dismount and we both fight as usual. But the dragon was too close to the edge of the cliff and kind of...spazzed, spun around, fell down the cliff and what it looked like was it literally catapulted shadowmere with it's tail as it went down and now I can't find the damn beast anywhere... was hilarious to watch as a horse was going 10000mph through the air into the middle of nowhere but quite annoying trying to find it by foot. I've given up and resorted to stealing again.

Indeed, its such a big improvement.

Is it just me or does Smithing always feel kinda like a cheat when you use it? There is essentially no reason to use them for anything other than creating Iron Daggers with the way item cost/complexity has no effect on the exp gained, you can't smith things to turn a profit unless you gathered the materials yourself which simply doesn't happen for valuable items (bar the one Ebony Mine).

i found it different.
i have enchanted some bracers, leather armour, ring and a necklace that improve smithing.
That is even before i use a smithing potion that gives me an extra bonus on smithing as well.

With this i can easily double or treble the price of most items.
then i have an enchanted necklace that gives me +30% barter and that paired with my TG hood which has +10% barter, i can get crazy prices.
Shame though that no merchants have enough coin to buy the good stuff off me ;)

that is why i have to buy all their ebony, corundium etc... ingots off them. (without the TG hood or the necklace)
but iirc the normal scaled armour, improved by smithing i can get 1.2k.
I did spam the daggers earlier, but now i find i am using it more, improving items and selling them, then i did with the daggers.
This part is boring me now, i have around 150k and i admit to abusing it, what is the point of all that money?
So i have stopped picking up stuff, unless its interesting.

Also agree over the enchanted items.
the amount of times i didn't sell an enchanted ring etc... to just go the the arcane chamber. to see that i have learned that enchantment already.

I think I have decided that I will not craft anything on my next play. Gonna focus on some skills I never maxed the first time. I might try more pickpocketing as well.

I might focus my nect game on sneak, speech, alchemy, archery, illusion and one other weapon skill. Also I only used light armour in my last game so I will probably try heavy too. I really liked sword and shield combat though, so I can't see myself changing much really, dual-wieldind didn't really do it for me. I might try two-handed.

Just doing the Mind of madness quest, did anybody get it right the first time?
LOL, after half an hour, i lost my mind and gave up, insane quest or what :D

Quick question about werewolves. Just picked up the perk (it's a questionable one as you lose access to all your weapons, spells and potions) but having shape-shifted now struggling to stay alive in a melee. Is there 1. A way of turning back to human form on demand or, 2. If you don't drink the blood of your victims, how long does the effect last before you return to normal - so I can run away and hide until then!?

What is the level cap on consoles? Is it the same for PC? 81?

I am now at level 24 with my assassin, almost done with the remaining mini contracts the nightm mother gives you after you have done the dark brotherhood line. Think I did 5 last night leaving me to do 5 more tonight.

I also have a absolute TON of quests! I have been accepting everything as I wonder around doing the dark brotherhood stuff for the last week lol.

Loving sneak now it's almost maxed out! It is shocking how easy it is to sneak, never get detected anymore unless i am right in their face in the light. I took down a dwarven centurian last night after wondering off on a simple 'Kill this bandit' contract from the night mother. The dude was in a dwarven ruin, went venturing, spent over 2 hours in there! Was a HUGE place, anyway, this Centurian was the last thing between me and freedom.

Killed the little ball dude thing, the centurian saw me, I used my stones ability (shadow stone), went behind him, 30x damage which brought him down to 1/5th health then I just beat away for a few seconds :D

The whole thing there was kinda moot as you were obviously talking about using Smithing AFTER maxing it. I'm talking about the fact there really isn't any real progression to using it like there is with say, One-Handed or Sneak or Destruction. It goes up when you feel like boosting it to the next big breakpoint. If I bought enough Ebony Ingots for a set of Ebony Mail, even if I could improve them to Legendary, it would probably cost me more to buy them than I could get by selling it and the obvious downside to the whole thing that I'd get exactly the same Smithing XP for making an Iron Dagger. So essentially I'd left it at ~50 for a while because I wanted Orcish... then upped it to ~68 because I had the items to boost skill to 91 for Legendary, now I've upped it to 80 for Ebony and I'll probably just finish it off for the sake of it and get Dragonbone. It goes up when I feel like boosting it not with any sort of steady progression.

Illusion is fun. Try using a Dagger with Illusion spells and Sneak back attacks where possible. I wouldn't bother with Archery and Sneak as it'll be too easy to kill everything. You just have to be careful with Pickpocket... its so easy to accidentally power level it. A couple of NPCs with some valuable jewellery on them and you can gain several levels almost instantly.

So I am level 49, very respectable head of the mage's college, defeater of dragons, upstanding citizen. I am thinking that in my retirement (as I see it in game) I will become a nasty pickpocket and sneak thief, even though I have more money than I know what to do with.

Basically I want to the the thieves guild without restarting. Will see how I get on.

Can't search for this at work but couple of quick questions.

Are there any mods to improve the 'quest book'? Once you've collected a few of the smaller quests, it's difficult to remember exactly what you had to do based on the small summary.

Is there a mod that will show you on screen what effects are currently active on you? Going through the menu to check to see if something has worn off is a pain.

Can you key shortcut items, if not is there a mod for that? i.e. press 1 for bow, press 2 for sword etc.

Edit: forgot to ask, what is the max number of perks you can add? Edit2: From as much as I can gleam from my filtered searching, it looks like perks stop at 50 (so that makles 49 perks) but essentially levelling to about 81. Is that right?

Search better. Or better yet use the bloody wiki and stop believing random idiots on google ><

For a little test last night instead of playing on my desktop with Ultra settings I downloaded Skyrim on my laptop (via my steam account). I set it to 800x600 at Low Settings (I have an old 9600m in my laptop) I was surprised how well it plays - I have started an Argonian Character just for lounge based Skyrim

isn't it in the magic section?, iirc its in powers, you can change it to the z button and change on demand. (i may be wrong, as i dont use it)

agreed, smithing before maxing, is kind of a waste.
also after improving ebony armour to legendry, is a waste, as none of the traders have 6K+ in coins to buy it off you.
i have realised this now, but back then i just had one thing in my mind, to make money and improve my armour.
I know better now

Actually, bringing up the point of merchants, will bethesda ever remedy this? I mean most only have like 700 gold! Which is nothing when you come back from 2 hours of exploring.

It's very silly.

Riverwood Trader has over 10k gold after you invest in his shop.

Makes a handy first stop off to off load loot. Before trekking up to Whiterun to do the circuit of traders there. That's usually enough to clear my inventory of spare junk and net me near enough 20k.

Thought it's a bit pointless now as I have over 300k, my armour's over the cap, I'm at 82% magic resistance, have all my houses and thus have nothing worth spending money on any more...

I fail to see the need ??
its only early on in the game were coins are a little tight, but even without trying its easy to amass a fortune. So giving traders more money would simple mean more money in your pocket as there is never anything worth buying!

Now, if they equipped better armour or unique items then maybe I'd spend some money at them but as it stands you find better armour and weapons in your travel so no need to ever trade with the exception of potions and ingredients.

What's actually worse is that nothing you find either in shops or dungeons can compare to what you can create yourself with smithing, enchanting and alchemy.

Makes even picking up the loot pointless once you've crafted yourself a decent set of equipment and amassed a spare pile of gold.
