The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

I was playing last night and did the break of dawn quest, i nearly crapped my pants at the staet of the quest as i had my surround sound headphones on.

The sound stage in this game is amazing. Its like i am actually in the dungeons, quite creepy all the noises.

Yeah, it is absolutely amazing, headphones really help to blow you away as well!

i have a question. Im working on my enchanting skill and have managed to find a lot of different enchantments to weapons and armour but some skill enhancements i have difficulty finding so i therefore cannot get their enchantment if i dont find it on a weapon anywhere right? So unless it has been done before by someone else essentially you cant create it?

Yeah, it is a challenge, what I recommend is scouring blacksmiths shops whenever you're in a town and see what they have if you're looking for an enchantment

I'm still playing, 2 or 3 hours each weekend same as I have been since it was released. Keep setting myself things to do and then my OCD keeps me playing. 1 Dragon Priest mask left to get...

Haha, I've wracked up about 70-80 hours total, and am currently collecting Daedric Artifacts xD They look nice in Dohvakiin's hideout though. Also I realised that in the hideout there's 9 shield racks behind the throne, and there are also 9 holds, so I'm now trying to get the shield for each hold to display - 3 down so far. Admittedly a trivial small thing, but it's just something I want!

I think I got the quest "The Fallen" bugged.

My goal is to talk with the NPC, but he won't say or do anything besides what is written on the screenshot, take a look, please.

You can try this:

Start Skyrim Launcher, Options -> Advanced, set shadows to medium.

Then start Skyrim, load a game, save the game, quit Skyrim.

Then go to SkyrimPrefs.ini in \My Games\Skyrim

I'd make a copy of it before editing it

Find these lines and set to 4096

iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=4096
iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=4096
iShadowMapResolution=4096

Save it, then start Skyrim, see it made them better. You will probably lose a few FPS.

There are more references to those shadow settings in other ini files I found.

Make copies before you edit

In \Documents\My Games\Skyrim Skyrim.ini

iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=4096

And in \Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Skyrim\SkyrimPrefs.ini

iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=4096
iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=4096

Stuck big time. Trying to start the companions quest, The Silver hand, given by Skjor? I think I have been given it, was a long time back but is not showing in my mission lists. He keeps saying he has sent me on a job already when I ask for work. I speak to Aela the huntress but no dialogue option comes up to start it either. She says I am already on a job too, for Skjor.
Any help, am going mad here!

Look on the wiki page for it. I vaguely remember seeing a bug listed for it that would start the quest but not progress it to the point where you could actually begin doing it. There should be info on it, probably just setstage and moving the quest forwards to a different point.

Trying 1920x1080 instead of 1920x1200, 129,600 less pixels make it quite a bit smoother :)

Though I find it still lags occasionally, sudden drop in FPS. Seems to be worse with the 1.4 patch than it was with the older version + Skyboost. Maybe the Skyboost creator can add whatever is missing.

Aye, looks like it's broken. That's really cheesed me off, no way to get any companion quest's now. Was really looking forward to the werewolf bit as well.
Cheers anyway.

Now then. That is brilliant! Cheers for that, going to give that a go later. Was hoping there was some command that could force the task through.
Thanks to you both, really appreciate that.

I already told you that there probably was a setstage method of getting it working :p

*missed the word both*

Sorry :p

Glad it worked. If theres ever a problem with a quest, easiest thing to do is check the wiki page. Chances are someone else has had it and theres a setstage work-a-round.

how can you bind the hud on/off as i prefer roaming around with nothing on screen but it is helpul when i want to know where im going :p

I can't decide on my next playthrough, I want to be a sneaky assassin, but I also want to not specialize in light armour, as i did last time. Definitely not putting anything in to smithing this time though.
