The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

First time I played it on PS3 and didn't read in to anything, spent an ages trying to work out what to do, had fun, got to level 70 or so. Sold the game on PS3 and now have a decent PC but waiting for Skyrim to come cheap on Steam then I will play it and know what I am doing.

Just venture around, you will soon get it !

Skyrim is at its cheapest price now.

All physical cops bought from anywhere will activate on steam.

Getting back in to this, such a gorgeous game.

Any decent mods released in the last few weeks? Got 30 on the go, but basically had them since the launch of the workshop, just wondered if I'm missing out on anything.

Whats this DLC they are advertising on TV for Skyrim? Is it xbox only? Will we see it on PC as part of a DLC pack?

Dawnguard. By all accounts it is pretty good. It has been released first on the 360 and then it will be released a month later on pc and playstation I believe.

It does look pretty good. Though I will not get it straight away, as I will probably save it for when all of the dlc has been released.

Just about to get back into this too; I quit in february just before act 3 out of boredom, and I think that was a lot to do with how I was playing and also with max illusion which kind of breaks most encounters. Bit of a shame, I'd like to give it a go again and try to finish it this time.

I really don't want to touch any mods yet either - too many nightmares from oblivion and modding. Prefer to keep it simple but just change playstyle a bit.

So this time I'm still going to use illusion, but ignore the "master of the mind" perk and only use it to avoid encounters; and together with that take restoration for the anti-undead stuff, a bit of alteration for things like magelight (because it looks cool) and absorb perks, with primary offence being one or two handed blades (plus a few block perks to complement it), and possibly a little bit of shock destruction for ranged offence.

So from the above I think you could guess - planning on role-playing some sort of argonian "holy warrior" type thing, who detests undead (hence restoration), and competent with one/two handed blades.

Anyway I noticed there's been an official free HD texture pack released. :D How is it? Worth downloading?

Also I'm a bit foggy on the necessary ini tweaks - I seem to recall there being something for tree shadows, and for FOV. Anything else new that might be worth thinking about?

Oh if there are any really simple mods that do a lot, I may be tempted - looking at things like that SkyUI and obviously the unofficial patch. But I'd rather just leave it vanilla unless there's something dire in need of fixing that bethesda will most likely not get around to. ;)

Yeah, have played it on 360. Very good DLC. If you love Skyrim, I'd advise you to pick it up when it comes out! :D

Check out the official mods thread for a good list of useful mods. Krugga has done a nice little guide to some essentials. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18340074

Skyrim needs far fewer mods than previous games, and is much easier to get right as well. Plus textures will not break anything anyway, so you can install as many as you like.
Thanks, I'm taking a look now. :) Ah yes I remember those tweaks now.

Refusing to even install this game until i can get a pc together that can handle everything + mods at max detail.

When i briefly played this game a while ago, i knew this game was the one game that was missing. So out of respect for the game, i stopped playing and i'm still waiting.

:(

Well now, it's not that bad, if you are using NMM most the time you can just uninstall the last mod you put on, and it puts the old files back for you :).

Never had a problem with modding and I dont use any mod managers.

I just cut-paste into the main folder.

My safety net (and it has worked like a charm) is an image of Skyrim HD on an external drive and 2 DVDs. Only had to use it once and even then for a tiny file. I actually think this game is very tolerant of messing about with.

I can see the case for a mod manager and I did try it but feel I dont feel I need it.

Only 410 pages of posts to look through then. Just bought the game in the Steam summer sale. :D

Apart from SkyUI what someone had mentioned on another post are there any other mods you would reccommend?

A quality world map? Skyrim HD 2K textures?...

Can you have too many, and might they conflict with one another?

Thanks.

Alan.
