The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

yeah, the controller support is sick. means you can switch between both controller and keyboard depending on where you are and what time it is; ie, controller in bed, mouse when you should be completing essays, etc.

Not sure if anyone picked up on this, but if you read the Official PS3 magazine thats on shelves now, there is a bit on Skyrim and how its a heavily modified version of the fallout 3 engine.

Not sure if this is known or not.

Kinda right, it's a modified version of the Gamebryo engine which was used for fallout 3 and oblivion among other games. Now called rather dramatically the Creation Engine after some modifications.

So there basically using the exact same engine as Oblivion?

With its terrible pathing, buggy physics, shocking voice acting, appalling NPC AI behaviour and awful distance graphics.

And we are meant to get excited about this?

I used to love the thought of Elder Scrolls, but now it just seems like a cash cow.

Voice acting isn't really anything to do with the engine, more to do with the fact that Oblivion had 12/13 voice actors in total. (Unless you mean the voices changing mid dialogue tree, which was horrible indeed, but not necessarily an engine constraint.)

Example - Jonathan Bryce: Argonian, Khajiit, Nord, and Orc males, Molag Bal, Hircine, Malacath

Last I heard - Skyrims voice cast is 70+ strong, so it should be noticeably improved in that regard.

I didn't have any issues with the physics in Oblivion so unsure what you mean by that. The pathing & ai in general will be a mixed bag undoubtedly.

None of that is especially a big deal to me though, I can easily look past it, my only concerns are PC related, or horrible game breaking bugs.

And cash cow? The last Elder Scrolls game released almost 6 years ago.

LOL did you just blame an engine for voice acting :D

And call a series that is released every 6-7 years a cash cow?

Ridiculous.

Something I notice in some of these previews is that they almost all experience some random event differing from each other. It's good to see how much mess you can get into right off the bat

Just a quick quote from Alec Meer over at RPS. Link (Good little article).

Alec Meer said:
Disclaimer: I played this on an Xbox 360, as PC code was not available on the day and I am fearful will not be so before the game’s release. So, only chance and all that. Damned shame, but there you go.

I know he's referring to the code for testing / impressions pre-release, but with just over 3 weeks to go, I hope the PC version isn't delayed.

They could Be trying to make sure it doesn't get leaked out like normal but who knows if there was going to be a delay with the game I think they would have said by now.
