The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Anyone getting the guide? I would like to, but rarely use them and find that wiki pages are better these days anyway.

not sure. the hardback collectors edition guide looks really nice, and i have the oblivion one (old version without the maps though :() Price isnt too bad, but i guess i can find everything on the wiki, and i got skyrim for only £10 more than the book cost... i guess i could wait until the extra content gets added and hte price goes down.

Now, is it just me, or do I detect more than a hint of a return to Morrowinds gloomyness and grittyness?

The game is based in Skyrim, its meant to be a colder tundra landscape much gloomier than the lush green sunny fields and forests of Cyrodil.

And Morrowind was based on a Volcanic Island, most of which was ash.

It's not that, I think it's more the textures etc. They don't seem as spangly fresh as they did in Oblivion, which I disliked. Morrowind always seemed to feature more darker textures, gloomier looking, if you will.

This recent footage seems like a step back to me. Looks like Oblivion graphically, but centred on the least intersting generic European castle towns. There was some nice unique (blocky) areas shown tho.
