The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

Does anybody know how to fix loading screen crashes?

I've got about 84 mods loaded from the workshop and they all regularly update themselves but I'm getting the game freezing when I open doors and tiwce today the game has just crashed to desktop.

Try a clean save method. If that doesn't work, perhaps disabling all mods and re-enabling them one by one will.

It's hard to say what mod(s) could cause it without knowing what you use.

I'm using Ultimate Follower Overhaul, check it out too (I doubt the two will work together).

I got to the point of downloading it, and was about to activate it, but the slightly OTT installation instructions made me a little hesitant ...it kind of looks like the author is expecting lots of problems tbh. Plus they don't work together unfortunately. UFO does look a little more comprehensive though, so I would swap them out rather than trying to use both.

Most mods cause issues when installing/uninstalling now.

Such is the modding in Skyrim.

I've just seen the instructions for new users:

FAIL-SAFE INSTALL PROCEDURE FOR BEGINNERS
0) Update Skyrim to 1.5 or higher version.
1) For everything below use ORIGINAL GAME LAUNCHER
2) Start Skyrim, load game, dismiss all followers, type show playerfollowercount and if it shows 0, save game, Quit.
3) Disable all mods affecting follower limit or mechanic (ILF, Mullti followers, TCG and any other) then uninstall them.
4) Delete any loose pex files in DATA/SCRIPTS folder that are on the list i have linked(LIST OF BAD PEX FILES )
5) Start Skyrim, load game, save game, Quit
6) Install UFO, position UFO.esp at the lowest place.
7) Start Skyrim, load game, Win

The first two points are obsolete, I'm starting a new game with this mod so no followers, no mods affecting followers either so no bad pex files found, don't need to save since the save is clean, BOSS sorts out the load order.

All in all, I don't have to do anything. :p

My game had hundreds of active mods running, so I look at that and whilst it would be fairly simple to get it working(I don't have many mods that affect followers), some of the steps mentioned make it look to me like problems are expected.

I'll stick with Better Followers, as I also like what it does to the factions(changes many NPCs appearance and armour etc). I love Deadly Dragons now, I wish I had used it sooner.

PS. It is the small mods which make all the difference- Auto unequip arrows

BTW, for people that do not so it already, a good way to find some nice mods which people might have missed is to go to Top 100 of all time and filter by different categories. You will find some quality mods right the way down, for example the no.100 mod in the armour filter has 191 endorsements!

I trawl through all of them:p

Also - NPC bartering is pretty useful, especially if you don't use pickpocket at all, instead you can make an offer for anything in any NPCs inventory

I want to go through this properly again, got about 150 hours on the 360 version. I want through as a warrior and did pretty much anything.

What race/class combo should I go for now? :D

As a warrior, I would play as a Redguard, also I can recommend the Dual-wield parrying mod that I linked earlier, even if you do not want to dual-wield, it is there as an option. Trying the official thread would be a better bet, as it is more for general Skyrim talk:) http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18216966

Can anyone help me....I seem to remember a mod which makes shouting improve your speech skill but I can't find it, and searching with all the words I can think of is not yielding any results....It definitely exists though. Trying to use the speechcraft tree this time, but I am levelling very slowly

Its one of those skills you either completely ignore or have to train up at every opportunity. Even if you use it you won't really improve it any faster than if you didn't bother with putting perks in it.

Pickpocket was fun. Once you put a point in the first perk you can pickpocket almost without issue and it levels up crazy fast (which can be a problem). Though I wouldn't try it without getting a quick mod to change the maximum chance (because when you're a master pickpocket, having a 90% chance to steal a few coins seems rather stupid).

Yeah I used pickpocket quite a bit in my last game, I thought it was quite fun actually. This time I am using NPC bartering just to add another aspect to it, so I could buy an item from an NPC...but if I don't have enough gold, I can resort to pickpocketing;)

Going for a bit of Alchemy this time, so I am looking for an overhaul of the alchemy in the game(though tbh I don't know what it was like in vanilla, as I never really used it)

Having fun going through the game again with a few mods :). Just capped smithing at 100 and just gone around the light armour way, why is it i cannot get dedric armour at 90 next to dragon armour , have i got to go all the way through the dwarven armour etc to get it.

Thanks for the suggestion of the deadlier dragons mods Pighardia :), its very good, first new dragon i saw was appearing and disappering so i though the mods was not working lol, it was a Shadow dragon and had fun trying to kill it :D

I find Spend dragon souls for perks is rearly nice along side deadlier dragons. Once you have all your shouts upgraded ect. This makes fighting dragons worthwhile.

Ranger/thief or a battle mage (classic DnD cleric with mace + resto/alter).

Bosmer/Khajit or Breton/Altmer.

Unless you perk Alchemy up its useless for anything but profiteering through potions like Slow/Damage Magicka Regen/Paralyze etc. The strength of the potions is too low to bother with really.

One alchemy mod I really want (that SHOULD be default in the game if Bethesda weren't kings of completely impractical design decisions) is one that records your possible potions list from ALL ingredients, not just the ones on your character. That way you can look at the alchemy tab, look at the ingredients you need, then take them out of storage.
Another thing that would be nice is the game not removing all the ingredients you selected when it fails, particularly because when you have a long list it gets annoying having to constantly scroll back up to re-add the same ingredient so you can try it in combination with everything.

Theres a mod for that I think of sorts. Not sure how ideal it is but it changes the Smithing tree into weapons/armours if I recall. Might be worth a look. There are almost certainly other mods out there too.

That sounds quite stupid to me... fighting dragons is supposed to be a challenge and good loot. If I had the ability to put dragons souls into perks I would have Unrelenting Force (lvl3), Whirlwind Sprint (lvl1) and Dragonrend (lvl3) and almost certainly bugger all else and put everything into perks because they are infinitely more useful. If its only available when you've learnt all shouts then that would be equally as pointless because that is so far into the game it would be completely unnecessary.

I have kind of been seduced by alchemy since I was in a dungeon with very low health(low everything) and I had practically nothing to help me, so in desperation I used a paralyze poison on my axe and it stopped the Draugur Lord for long enough for me to hide, regroup and attack from a different angle!

I am thinking poisons could be quite a useful skill tree to use, I haven't looked at the alchemy tree atm, but I imagine you could specifically target poisons.

The first x/5 perk is obviously beneficial but the next 1 is required and only effects certain potions. Then you get access to the 2 poison skills (25% more effective and lasts for 2 hits). The 2 hits perk is really handy vs multiple opponents. I interrupted some NPCs duel in a dungeon by applying a strong Paralysis potion and shoot em both with a bow. They never got back up :p

Tbh the only poison that is of any use is Paralysis since no matter what the duration, the enemies fall over and have to get back up which takes even longer. Damage Health tends to be outclassed by your weapon damage by a mile if you use Smithing at all (probably even if you don't unless you max out Alchemy early on). To make things worse, the 2 strongest versions of the effect require extremely rare (Crimson Nirnroot) and rare (River Betty) ingredients. Slow seems to have practically no effect at all and as for Damage Magicka/Regen... by the time you effectively drained a mage of magicka you could've killed him 5x over. And since theres no Silence effect anymore...
