The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

Deus Mons

I am currently considering whether to add an ENB to my game, it already looks stunning with Realistic Lighting, plus I am getting good performance so I am happy with it, but of course the dangers of a game you can mod this heavily......you always want more:p

Same here, Stakado Cinemascope ENB looks promising.

That does look brilliant. I will give it a go.

I just read about the way the radiant quest system can be implemented with mods and thought it was quite brilliant really. When modders create custom dungeons/forts etc, they can add them to the radiant quest system so that the game will send you to the user-made dungeons for quests. That is pretty cool.

Also I am finding that better Villages is a nice little mod for improving the smaller towns like Ivarstead/Riverwood etc, and there are some nice new villages as well. Primby is a nice one I started using yesterday which has a nice player home as well.

PS Krugga- read the second comment down on the comments page on the Stakado ENB page ....there is no hope!:p

Updated Guide - still WIP

1) Fixes and Gameplay altering Mods:

  • Unofficial Skyrim Patch - we all know it and love it from previous TES games!
  • Deadly Dragons + PISE - harder dragons, better AI and slightly more challenging game.
  • Warzones - real time battles between different factions in pre-defined areas on the map; might conflict with some mods not listed here and prove not lore-friendly to some.

Ultimate Followers Overhaul - read the readme before installing/uninstalling!

Some mods will require these two:

Both installed in the main Skyrim directory.

2) Interface:

3) Essential Texture Mods:

First of all, make sure you have the official HD Pack and HD Textures DLC Fix.

OR

Bethesda Hi-Res DLC Optimized, which merges the two (meaning no nead for the High-Res DLC) and optimises some textures for better performance (lesser VRAM usage, my favourite).

4) Graphical Adjustments:

Realistic Lighting With Customization - a few different configs; includes:

See links for updated versions.

Or Stakado Cinemascope ENB - my pick from the ENB configs lot, includes SMAA and SSAO somewhere in the files

  • Imaginator - in-game colour and gamma adjustment
  • Dynavision - Depth of Field, no performance hit
  • SMAA - alternative to FXAA, no blur associated with FXAA and works on transparent textures, unlike MSAA. Best of both worlds.

5) Armoury: (WIP)

Essentials:

  • Smithing Perk Overhaul
  • Complete Crafting Overhaul
  • Weapons and Armour Fixes

Optionals:

  • JSwords
  • Cloaks of Skyrim

6) Extras:

  • Skyrim Monster Mod
  • Real Wildlife
  • The Dance of Death - A Killmove Mod

7) Ini Tweaks:

8) Tools:

Nexus Mod Manager
Mod Organiser - NMM alternative with more options
BOSS - load order sorting

9) Resources:

Skyrim Nexus
Steam Workshop - Skyrim
Curse - Skyrim
SkyForge

Skyrim Tips
IGN Guide to Skyrim
Skyrim Wiki
UESP - First Time Players Tips
Guide to Load Orders (now obsolete)

Watch this space, I'll make a comprehensive list for both new and advanced players at any level.

Yep you must be because it works fine. Make sure they're both running as the same user and start steam before running it. Or try deleting all the skse files and re-getting the current version.

I'll sort it out later this evening, can anyone think of any essential mods that I didn't include in the guide yet?

Not really essential mods, no. But as a guide, I would include at the beginning a massive note about reading the readmes and installation guides for each mod.

Actually 2 mods which I would say are essential to me and which really enhance gameplay by adding some great stuff are Jaysus Swords and Lore-friendly Armour pack. Lots of extra weapons and armour which add bit more variety and both are well incorporated into the levelled list as well as being craftable.

BOSS has suddenly become very impressive in Skyrim. From FO3/NV where you would have many of the most popular mods available not ever recognized and would be waiting for updates for ages, now they are really getting on top of it and small mods released a day ago are being sorted properly ...really good show!

Not all mods require reading readmes, really, most people don't have to worry about them. Plus it doesn't matter what I write in that guide, those who don't read readmes, won't be bothered by it anyway.

I'll make additional notes to each of the mod that requires any configuration or awareness when installing/uninstalling (like the Realistic Lighting, ENB configs, mods that alter locations with spawn, or WATER.

JSwords is already listed in the optionals and I might add the Lore-Friendly Armour pack later.

I'm being reluctant to include many armours and weapons mods since most aren't that good with every texture and there's so many of them, it would unnecessarily clutter the guide.

Nice one Mr.Krugga. I already had about 80 mods installed from the steam workshop. This nexus mod manager is useful too, since the workshop is not comprehensive.

Should I unsubscribe from the steam workshop and use the nexus mod manager, is that what other people do?

Also how do you properly uninstall mods?

Yeah, they aren't really essential. They are very useful for adding variety to the game though and are two comprehensive packs which would save installing many individual mods for people looking to add more content.

Something worth tracking, just been uploaded- Taverns

Not sure if Tytanis is worth throwing on your list, but its fairly huge.

Indeed it is, but it's also a major overhaul of a few important aspects of the game and includes many not lore friendly additions that I'd prefer to avoid, and I doubt new people to modding would want those changes implemented.
