The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

Just "discovered" the disable console command. Such a handy thing! Specially if you got an eye-candy terrain/structure mod thats gone a bit wrong.

I found a tree growing through the roof of a house in Riverwood. In console type <disable> followed by a space then click on the tree and press Enter...tree vanishes :D

Applies to pretty much anything. Typing <enable> immediately after will bring the object back. But it only seems to keep 1 history item so if you are directly editing the Skyrim world with this command keep making new saves.

Usage:

1. Enable the console
2. type disable<space> <object ID>
3. press Enter

Example: disable 000ffe156

PS: object id = click the object with the mouse

Guys looking for some help with modding Skyrim for the first time. I played through once on the PS3 at launch so have had the "vanilla" experience.

From a few pages back someone recommended the best guide to follow is STEP?

Is that correct?

I want the best mods available to show off what my system can do. My specs are:

3930K @4.8Ghz
32GB Ram
GTX 680 2GB
2 x 256GB SSD Samsung 830

I just installed the game but from early reading seems i need to move my steam to another hard drive away from my OS and not installed in programs! so will need to uninstall everything and reinstall separately. I want to play the game from the beginning with all mods installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Any idea what sort of experience you are after on your second play through?

Modded Skyrim can be a lot, you just have to decide how far you are going to go from the vanilla game.

STEP is a great project, I try to contribute to it the best I can with the given time. As it stands, it is a bit outdated considering the latest patch so it's advisable to understand what mods have changed, which were made redundant or aren't compatible, and what is to be included in the next, updated STEP.

Gonna be interested when the Skyrim multiplayer mod is fully functional. Just disable anyone playing for a laugh. :D

Im not really sure, just want improved graphics, textures etc so can stress my system and stuff that will make the game more enjoyable. Ill be using more magic and bows this play through as was just hacking and slashing on my last play through on ps3.

Will be using an xbox pad and using my HDTV

Im also cool with added content aswell, as long as it adds to the game. Im not one to try and keep it as vanilla as possible.

Any stuff you can reccommend if the STEP is too outdated. Theres just so much dont have a clue where to start!

STEP may be outdated in the sense that there has been a patch since its last update(i think) but all the mods still work fine. I went through STEP about a month ago and my game is fine(no crashes, slowdowns or anything in 60-odd hours)

What kind of framerate hit did you find from going through STEP? Have you got any comparison screens?

Oh, and how long did it take you to go through the guide, download everything and get it all running?

Hardly any FPS drop, though I tend not to worry too much about it, it never goes below 45 though, and my system is slightly below yours. Same GPU but with a phenom 965

It took me a few hours to download all the mods(some are a few gb), as my net isn't the quickest. The guide tells you exactly what to do though, so it is simple to follow. The best thing to do is open the guide and click on the mod-links and it takes you straight to the download page, then download with NMM

You do not need to download all of them anyway, so I did leave a few out, as well as adding a few gameplay mods(weapons/armour etc)

Thanks dude. Does this all work with the Steam version of the game?

There's only a Steam version of the game. It's Steamworks.

Me? ...if so, no I didn't. I try not to overcomplicate things;)

Turns out quite a few mods that affect crafting may not be 100% compatible and the bashed patch eliminates these issues.

There shouldn't be any with the STEP mods, though.

Some changes to my original guide:

  • PISE - replaced with ASIS
  • USKP - use the latest beta, first release is not fully compatible with Skyrim 1.6
  • Better Sorting - no longer updated and it's not made in CK so will cause corruption in the long run
  • Skyrim 2K HD Textures - I replaced them with Skyrim Realistic Overhaul, personal preference, changes are more subtle and vanilla-like
  • Deadly Dragons - may be incompatible with some other mods I'm installing at the moment, in any case, you should upgrade to the latest version and make a clean save, e.g. follow the instructions and wait for 31 days to reset all cells
  • WATER - should be fine, as long as it's a fresh save, some older ones that had RWT installed may show corruption near water sources
  • SMIM - no changes, just a shame it's no longer updated
  • A Better City Whiterun - replacing with Open Cities (fixed navmeshes) for now, as I'm using a bunch of other mods that may conflict with the former; Use this one with caution
  • Smithing Perk Overhaul, Complete Crafting Overhaul, Weapons and Armour Fixes - same story as Better Sorting, no longer updated and made outside of CK = potential conflicts; replaced with Ars Metallica as per the STEP guide.

I'm adding Economics of Skyrim beta to my list of mods too, won't be in the guide though as it's a major game changer.

Watch Gopher's videos too, he reviews mods that are well made and mostly follow the guidelines.

Also a recommendation to use the Optimizer Textures with the Medium preset. Saves VRAM, improves performances, fixes some alpha channel and mipmap issues.

If you're still having performance issues related to high VRAM consumption, turn off Windows Aero when launching the game (you can just switch off the composition preset on the game's launcher).

I installed a **** load of mods last night from following the STEP guide. I missed a load out as I really couldn't be bothered with downloading mods that retexture dead hanging rabbits. I can't actually believe some of the mods available, there was even one for retextured insects, haha! You can barely see them anyway!

Annnnyway, the game is looking awesome and is running fine. The best ones so far were the new sound mods, they are brilliant, and also the RCRN one which changes all the colours and stuff. The game looks good, but I need to have a proper play tonight to check some dungeons out as the Dark Brotherhood HQ seemed like the textures were a bit **** in there. Certainly no better than vanilla.

Just thought I might put a little bit of humor in here for anyone stressed from modding Skyrim! After my 5th complete and utter meltdown of Skyrim after messing up mods, I think I'll take a break. :(

Next time I'm doing everything manually, seems mod managers just mess things up and lead you into a false sense of security before doing so.

i have downloaded all the mods on the OP

what order do i have to install the major ones like the high res textures, 2k mod etc etc.

im worried i will install them incorrectly (the major ones) and bugger my skyrim up

Texture mods can never actually break Skyrim, in fact its quite hard to mess up the textures.
