The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

I bought Skyrim about a week ago and I came to play it today. I originally played it on the XBox so I thought that rather than starting a new character, that I'd give myself the weapons I had on my character on the 360 by using the editor to drop them into the game. I started up my savegame in Helgen, picked up my weapons and followed Ralof through the tutorial. Now when I'm out, I went to level up and it kept asking me to choose Health, Stamina, Magicka until I'm level 25. What the hell have I done to my game? I should mention that my One-Handed weapon skill and Archery have shot up to 100.

The items I gave myself are customised weapons from the Nightingale set. I didn't put anything on any weapon that would accelerate levelling as far as I can tell. Anyone have any idea what has happened?

Guys please help me, Skyrim = CTD with no error message about 1 second after pressing the CONTINUE option from the menu :(

-latest Skyrim version
-latest Steam version
-latest ATI Catalyst
-all Win 7 64bit updates applied
-ran file-validation check on Steam. It said:

1 file failed to validate and will be reacquired.
But I have no idea when this is supposed to happen and Steam gave no indication of any update?

Thanks for any advice!

Crash to desktop on Continue is usually because you removed a mod or you have a mod/saved value conflict. You fail to mention if you have used mods.

Thanks for the reply.

The CTD came outta nowhere which is puzzling - all this time Skyrim ran fine. Then today...CTD

Yeah I should have mentioned I have about 25 mods. I disabled all of them and also disabled all the plugins using NMM.

Also turned off AA & Aniso.

Still get CTD. I tried the "Start a new game" option and it stays stuck on the loading screen and I had to CTRL-ALT-DEL to get out of it.

:( Dont know what else to do. Why cant the file-verifier on Steam fix this?? It says theres an error in the validation and then does nothing!

I love the more 'realistic' mods. Here's my character in the snow with frost that sticks to her clothes, breath you can see in the cold, a fur hood, extra pouches and a thick cloak.

Sup guys!

I am going back in terms of games and going to complete those RPG's I skipped to play the next big thing...

Skyrim being the first of them, I have MANY old mods installed, but I think it's probably best I reinstall the game from fresh and just mention to you guys what I would expect and like.

If you guys could compile a list of mods that are mandatory haha. I am expecting to play a 2 handed/1 handed + magic wielding badass.

Previously I played a thief style, LOVED it, but hate feeling weak at the start and want something a little 'faster' playing if that makes sense.

So yea, just a note, I don't like the idea of ENB, I prefer to keep the art style of the game totally original.

SkyUI is a mod you should definitely install. Reworks the inventory UI to a much more PC friendly version.

I'm getting back into Skyrim myself and I am searching around for some mods. Once I have quite a few I'll post a little list here of the mods I am using.

EDIT: You should also get the "Better Dialogue Controls" mod. It makes it so you can actually click on the dialogue option you hover over.

Recently reinstalled with some mods too, I dare not spend too long on skyrim nexus or I just get too carried away. Truely amazed by WATER, it's the best I've seen water in a game, WetandCold is good along with getSnowy...too many good ones to list really I'll post a list when I'm settled on them!

There are so many good mods out there but imo these are essential

Texture pack combiner - will make your game world look amazing
Wet and cold - one of the best immersion mods
Hotter skyrim (if you can find it) - makes the main followers look gorgeous - require better females and apachii sky hair to run.
W.A.T.E.R - makes skyrims water look amazing
Skyui - as already mentioned.
Deadly dragons - inc Armoury and Forgotten mastery - The dragons will basically kick your arse and then some
Unofficial patches (skyrim and dawngaurd)
RCRN 3.6 - fantastic lighting mod

Awesome, think I am going to have to have a full on modding weekend coming up then :)

Also, easily getting over 100fps with my current mod list (80fps capped due to physix bug), but with ENB (high quality profile), it drops to 30...

I am running on a EVGA 670 FTW edition

Just had to reinstall following a faulty SSD.

Not sure if I can be bothered finding and installing all the mods again! Shame there aren't downloadable mod packs with everything all in one.

How many of these can be attained in the workshop rather than with a mod manager?

And how graphics straining are they? (On a 480 ATM...)

Does anyone have any idea why this game runs awful on my machine? Using Skyrim 2k HD Lite, running at 1440x900, everything on high but nothing on ultra, I've also limited the framerate to 35 and everytime I travel around the wilderness etc it stutters, just like it always had but I thought that was just due to my old processor (Bulldozer Fx-4100) but recently jumped to a 3570k. Now if a 480GTX can run Skyrim along with all those graphic mods, surely my 6850 with a 3570k can run Skyrim with nothing but Skyrim 2k HD Lite at a low rez?

Or is this game really this badly optimized?
