The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

I kept calling Riverwood, River Run for ages. But yeah, I notice dips there and also at the top of the steps at Dragonsreach. Even reducing all settings down, I still see dips just not as noticeable. Frustrating but just have to learn to live with it.

As yes DragonsReach

Is that at the top of the stairs look towards the middle and main entrance, as if you're way high?

The frame rates really dive there, but if you move slightly one way or another they are fine :o

Yes! Looking down and for the first few steps going down the stairs. I originally put it down to a mod that put trees all over whiterun (obviously wouldn't help things) but it's there regardless. I can't remember if the console version had a similar lag issue there or not.

Me too. There are quite a few 'choke points' here and there, for no obvious reasons. Monitoring my CPU and GPUs, ram, vram usage etc, none are being stressed at these points either, so it must just be an engine quirk.

The Riverwood one I test is when I'm stood on the bridge on the way to Whiterun, looking back at the village. Dips down to around 45 fps. If I turn off ENB it only dips to 55, but either way my 780's aren't struggling at this point (Around 65% usage with enb on) so who knows...

I dont experience any issues in whiterun or riverwood, surely a 780ti can keep up, my 7970 barely runs playing skyrim, usually around 40-60% usage and steady 60fps

2 780Ti's :). That's my point - some of these FPS dips in very specific places are not due to lack of GPU power, or running out of VRAM. I don't think it's even CPU limitations, as CPU usage is never really stretched. It's something else.

If you're running at 40-60% usage and geting a contstant 60fps, you're obviously not using an ENB.

How skyrim performs all depends on how far you push it with mods and punishing ENB's. I've got a fair few mods, and I'm ENB'd to the max - every feature is turned on.

Skyrim without ENB is a walk in the park. One GTX 670 was easily enough for that.

Well am getting close to finishing modding up the game.

There is still some mods that I yet to decide upon because they are dead-ends where if I use them, I can't use others that users are reporting problems with.

I'm not using any ENB mods, I decided against it since my Q6600 won't like it and looking into it... just seems too much work. But am using HD 2K to 4K Textures everywhere.

Got that freacking Level Up Text bug still. :(

Yeah, if you're not using an ENB you definitely need to use AF, best results would be forcing it through Nvidia CP rather than using the in game AF. If you have an AMD card even better, I think the CCC has some epic AF options that Nvidia doesn't, although it's been a while since I had an AMD card.

I'm using a 6950 2GB (6970) but with a Q6600 3.2GHz playing at 3150 x 1680.

I see if CCC helps. :p

Don't use the driver control panel for AF, use the in game AF if not using an ENB. Clearly explained in op, that af forced through control panel can crash the game with certain mods

Bet that 6600 still pulls it's weight, think it even outperforms the latest AMD cpus in Skyrim. :p

Use the ingame AF as stated below though.

Oops, I've always forced it. :o

OK. I think I'm done with my ENB version.

If you want to give it a shot then the link is

. Included in the .RAR file is ENB v251, ENB Helper and the core files. So, everything you need to get it working without having to search nexus or enbdev :)
Just unzip and copy all the files to the skyrim.exe folder.

And don't forget the Skyrimprefs.ini.. alter the usual bFloatPointRenderTarget=1 , trees shadows, land shadows etc to taste.

I've altered the sky brightness, made clouds and sky dark at night, made mountains darker, added bloom, removed bright water at night, basically made the vanilla skyrim what I think it should be but keeping with the same style and colours of the original game.

And I recommend using it with "Remove Interior Fog V2" mod on the nexus.

Not to be used with anything that alters image space lighting.. RLO, ELFX etc. Works fine with colour adjusters such as Imaginator etc.

and some pics..

No texture mods apart from character skin/hair mods used in the pics. All default skyrim stuff:-

Use at least 16 in the ini file, 0-2 is extremely low and there wont be a massive difference in frames, if hardly any at all

Ah~ 16 made the game totally unplayable. I had freezes and huge FPS drops when I was fighting the Giant at the farm (LVL1 char).

From there, FPS kept dropping like mad, up and down and finally it crashed before the gates to the city.

Dropped it to 4 and it's become playable again but I might have gone a little too far with my HD mods and textures, it's still not as playable as it was in my first installation, so I guess I will just stay with no AA/AF unless I drop my resolution down again and keep the AA/AF.

Well, am down to my last three windows of mods to choose from with a choice of about 20+ mods.

These are mostly the "big" mods that can break the game or force you down their route only.

I want to install Run for your Lives and When Vampires attack but I been reading the comments and there seems to be problems. I had these two before and didn't have any problems but saying that, in my short history of gameplay, I never seen the mods work since no attacks happened.

Inever found them any good tbh, i use this mod http://erkeilmods.altervista.org/skyrim/skyrim-npc-overhaul/ it protects quest givers, venders etc. Its funny when a load of pimped out vamps turn up and get spanked by the locals :D. And if your using USKIP you may as well use SMPC for more good patch fixing goodness http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/23833/?. Well back to trying out Sands of time again :)
