The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

I'll no longer be updating the OP list as it's too difficult to keep up to date now with the ever different mod updates. However most of the mods can be used in the guide and you can even try new ones.

Just use it as a guide :)

Wondering if anyone here can help. I decided to reinstall Skyrim and start modding again (have nearly 500 hours in the game with modding experience) but I've hit a wall over something.

Basically the game is running solid, no CTD's, freezes or hanging on the loading screen. However... each time I go near certain aspects of a town or a fort, the game comes to a complete halt, like barely 3-5 FPS, until I turn away and it's instantly back to 60 FPS. It only happens when I look at certain angles of a building/fort or town.

I found this video which is quite similar, but mines much more extreme from 60FPS to 3FPS with a micro flick of my mouse to the side: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtFYE6p80mM

Anyone came across this before? If so can you remember what you did to fix it? I'm going through the mods step by step but I cant seem to find the culprit.

Grass mods can sometimes cause that ( but not always )

For example I can get it to happen by not adjusting the ini file for correct grass when using grass on steriods

It's definitely not the grass in my situation. It's something relating to light source I think. It happens especially around blacksmith forges and seemingly random things like anvils or tables.

I disabled the SMIM and parallax mods, thinking it might be a poorly coded model with a memory leak or something which was reacting with a light source, but it still happened. Very odd. I think I'm going to have to start over.

Are there any mods/tweaks that i can try to improve the pop in, game looks great but having things suddenly pop in is very immersive breaking

^ You probably need to look into ugrid settings.

Quick question: Is there any way to add dragonborn/dawnguard dlc to an existing modded game without starting fresh? (though reinstalling certain mods with their dlc options would have to be done obviously)
Pretty sure it's a no, but it doesn't hurt to ask :) Just don't fancy starting all over again for the third/fourth time...

I'd really like to know this too, was hoping to pick up all 3 DLC in the summer sale but really don't want to have to start again

You should just be able to add DLC at any time, at least with unmodded game. Some mods might cause problems/be incompatible so you might want to check that.

Its taking stuff away that causes problems.

Follow up question... can anyone tell me what happens if you purchase and activate the Legendary edition on top of the regular edition of Skyrim? Does it just effectively add all 3 DLC to your regular game or does it show up as a separate game in your library?

It's really annoying that for a lot of games they keep doing decent deals on the GOTY/complete edition but never on the individual DLC themselves

would be interested in this answer also, as recently there have been some stupidly cheap deals on the legendary edition, compared to buying the DLC individually

It just adds the DLCs.
People who have bought the vanilla version, usually get the GOTY edition later on as it is much cheaper than buying all the DLCs separately.

Okay guys cheers... there's just something that feels I dunno, wasteful? about buying the GOTY edition on top of the vanilla... But if it works out a good price overall anyway and won't mess my game up I guess no reason not to do it

I'm in the same boat with Dishonored DLC and with XCOM:Enemy Within

Can anyone recommend me some animation mods please?

I'm looking at FINS and few others but they all seem to be a lot of work to install that could break my game if I screw up.

I also would like to avoid ones that have to use skills, magic or shouts but if I got no choice, so be it.

My character is a girl so girl related ones would be best. :p

I can recommend a few mods for animations, i only use one now as i am past my jiggle and bounce part of my life :D

for all round improved animations, Enhanced Animation http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/45970/?
for a sexy walk with MCM menu, FNIS Sexy Move http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/54521/?
you need Fores New Idles in Skyrim - FNIS, i find FNIS Behavior V5_1 -- ALWAYS necessary june 1 and FNIS Sexy Move 1.0 june 1 works with no problems and is easy to set up. Just make sure your using xp32 maximum skeleton x93ar50 from lovers lab

other animations can be handled by the HDT system so best one i can recommend is Remodeled Armor for CBBE Bodyslide and TBBP HDT http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/25259/?

Myself i just use Remodeled armor (no bbp) and sexy moves, they look good and walk like women

chaps.. I'm looking for suggestions for some performance mods for Skyrim.

I'm going to start a casual run on my lounge PC, gaming from the sofa. I don't get much chance to zone in on the gaming PC atm which is in my attic room.

I'm going to run this on a stock/mild overclock AMD 955 quad core and a 5850, playing into a 40 inch TV.

I'm not fussed about loading endless mods, but if I can run the game on 1080 with decent rates and detail I'll be happy. Any suggestions?
