The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

I take your point :)

...is what I see but it seems whatever I place in that path, related to MO, it doesn't seem to work.
Maybe being familiar with NMM that always seems to work fine might be my best option.

Is it important to edit the master files via LOOT? I don't see it mentioned on any guides, but RealVision mentions it a lot.

I've not touched any master files when LOOT has advised to do so.
Whether this would help with anything, I'm not sure. But things are running OK.

Also, MO comes with LOOT 0.50, there is a way to get it use a later version by setting the new LOOT as an executable within MO it then picks up your MOD order, but again, 0.50 has been what I've used.

As long as your mod order on the left is organised properly so conflicts are OK, then you'll be OK.

Does anyone know of a texture mod for better looking tents. I've started playing again and going through the Stormcloak quests and every time I enter a camp I have to look at these fugly tents. I have had a look around Nexus but I couldn't see anything at all for Stormcloaks specificly, only leather Imperial tents.

This is the leather Imperial 1 I found which I have added as it looks pretty good, sadly no joy in finding one for my beloved Stormcloaks.

I'm finally going to finish the main quest line tonight. I've been in an enclosed area for the last couple of gaming sessions. I should be able to finally get outside into the wilderness and have a proper look at what all of the MODs have done!

I'm about to give up on ENB's. I've tried about 5 (all the most popular) and even with DOF and Ambient Occlusion turned off i get about 40-45 fps running around outside Helgen. Given that my rig (see sig) is only powering a 1680x1050 screen i think thats pretty terrible. My rig is more powerful than the recomended specs for all the ENB's i've tried.

I'm considering giving Skyrim another play through, but never really got invovled with the mods before. I don't want the game looking amazingly good, I just want it to look decent with nice FPS.

Will my spec be decent enough?

My spec is i5 4670k, 8GB DDR3, 7850 2GB.

Should I just get the HD texture packs and some of the 'essential' mods?

Don't bother with the official HD texture packs. They caused a load of performance issues with my game. You're best off just getting the 2K textures. They're just a good.

With regards to essentials and everything else, have a look at reapers guide, it is very useful: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=26970366&postcount=5054

Edit: you may struggle with the 7850. But its all about tinkering around with things and seeing what works for you. If you use a Mod Organizer or Nexus Mod Manager then its really easy to uninstall texture mods which cause performance issues.

I've yet to find an ENB setting that is worth the FPS drop. My FPS halves, from 60 to 30 and with some stutter. It just isn't worth it and one ENB doesn't seem to look best for all areas. Some look better in snow, others on open grassland and woods, others inside etc.

I've decided the game is better without, but certainly far better with the usual MODS.

If you follow my guide, some of the mods I have included have 'lite' or smaller versions which will work nicely with your 7850. They're some ENB's which don't affect your FPS much (1-5fps at max) which are worth looking at if you want an ENB or some sort. I suggest including the patches and fixes in the earlier steps and that can regain some much needed performance.

But if you do start modding, the guys here and myself will be more than happy to help should you get stuck! :)

They're some small ENB's which don't affect your FPS by much at all.
Also, some of the big ENB's have lite versions or cut down versions which don't affect FPS much.

Which card/CPU do you have?

I'd guess vsync has turned off for some reason and you need to turn it back on. Can do it via SkyrimPrefs.ini: iPresentInterval=1 in the [Display] section. If you are using ENB then you can EnableVSync=true in enblocal.ini in the [Engine] section. Also check your graphics card settings (Nvidia CP or AMD CCC), make sure it isn't forcing vsync off, check in global and program specific settings. You probably want it set to application controlled in graphics card settings.

Also if you are using an ENB then using that stutter remover mod is a little more complicated. To be honest I don't think you need that mod. It does 2 things: allow you to set an FPS limit, and change the number of pre rendered frames. You can use ENB to set FPS limit, and you can use your graphics card to set pre rendered frames.

Anyone got any tips for getting better performance from ENBs? I already turn off DOF and Ambient Occlusion but still struggle to hit 50fps.

If the ENB you use has Detailed Shadows enabled then you can lower these settings in SkyrimPrefs.ini and you shouldn't notice too much difference in the quality:

[Display]
fShadowDistance= (I use 4000)
iShadowMapResolutionSecondary= (I use 1024)
iShadowMapResolutionPrimary= (I use 1024)
iShadowMapResolution= (I use 1024)

And this one in Skyrim.ini

[Display]
iShadowMapResolutionPrimary= (I use 1024)

You can tweak the memory settings in enblocal.ini. Here are mine (I have a 4GB graphics card):

[MEMORY]
ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true
ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=true
DisableDriverMemoryManager=true
DisablePreloadToVRAM=false
EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=false
ReservedMemorySizeMb=1024
VideoMemorySizeMb=8192
EnableCompression=false
AutodetectVideoMemorySize=false

If you have raised uGridsToLoad above 5 then all hope is lost of high FPS with an ENB :).

You could overclock your CPU/GPU to get few more FPS.

Edit: Just turned signatures back on and can see your spec. Already overclocked. 3GB graphics card? Try ReservedMemorySizeMb=768 (or 512) and VideoMemorySizeMb=6144 in enblocal.ini.
