The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

OK, ENB wasn't on... I have no idea why!

But, I really need to mess around to get it the way I want it which is gonna take some time. I'll post back with screenshots as I go.

By the way, are mountains meant to blur in and out of focus depending on where the mouse is pointed?

Dunno how you would change RLO, I never use it. Maybe with the ENB on you can change the shadows but I don't use RealVision ENB either :). I think the really dark shadows are by design in RLO.

The mountains blurring in and out of focus is the Depth of Field effect. Focusing on whatever you are looking at. I turn off the ENB DoF and use DynaVision static DoF. Stops the constant changing of focus, just slightly blurs the distance, and has no FPS loss like the ENB DoF can cause.

Can take a long time to tweak ENB to your liking; so many settings :).

Do any of you guys find in some place the engine has very low fps and cpu/gpu usage? an example would be when you fast travel to whiterun and then look into the village.

If game isn't modded that sounds like you haven't installed SKSE and setup the memory management in skse.ini. Even if you aren't modding the game you should install SKSE I think.

If it is modded then could be the same problem. Or it could be shadows. Shadows are the bane of FPS in Skyrim :)

Modded or un-modded?

Its modded to most of whats mentioned in this thread, not played it since ESO came out and just fancied to give it a go again on my new rig. Its like in some areas it doesn't matter what hardware you have got it struggles to get over 40-50fps. Even if I turn on my ENB's Ambient Occlusion in Whiterun it stays the same fps even though in other areas it would cut your fps by 30%.

My gpu mem usage is at just over 3gb and Im using 4gpb 970's.

This hasn't just started to happen, it was like this 12 months ago where I got slightly higher minimum fps with my single 780TI classy in these areas but not much. something is choking the game.

Im using Serenity ENB which was always a bit more demanding than the others but looked the best at the time. I dont know if there are much better ones now?

I had rubbish FPS in Whiterun after installing JK's Whiterun mod. Set fShadowDistance=3000.0000 in SkyrimPrefs.ini and FPS back up again.

I use 'Perfect Whiterun' and 'Realvision ENB' myself and notice slight drops, but remains a constant 60fps throughout, unless it's freshly loading the city and I'm sprinting through.

Which area's are you noticing the most FPS drop, screenshot what you're looking at and I'll do the same to see the difference.

I'm running 2 x 680's so you should be a tad more powerful than me.

@ThaReaperGuy Those screens are stunning, damn I might break off Metro 2033 to atart modding Skyrim again. It might be a good time to do that as I'm stuck in the depository section of that game and I do have a tendency to scream like a girl when the monster ape things chase me. If I could find a saved game after that level it would help.

If I do get into serious modding again I know that will take over for a long time, must backup the Skyrim folder first..!

How complete is your guide now, in terms of being able to use it and hopefully avoid too many burps on the way..?
Also I have in the past preferred to use the Mod Manager from Nexus as it also controls the mods for Fallout 3 / NV and other games.

BTW please consider having a word with Neil as I feel that your great modding guide might go amiss if it is not referenced to in the first post.
(even though I've just turned on signatures and can now see it in yours)

Just tried this and fps upto 60 also. Still only utilizing only 50% of graphics cards though but better than before.

Whoever was asking a few pages back if anyone had tried Skyrim on a 970 GTX... I just got mine and had a go last night

I haven't changed any mods (yet) but even though the game wasn't struggling too badly (or so I thought) on my old card (670 GTX) the difference is definitely noticeable, particularly in the outside areas where all motion feels way smoother and there is never any noticeable slowdown
