The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

Level 14 now, just joined the Theifs Guild at Riften since want to complete the No Stones Unturned quest and get the Prowler's Profit "bless", although seems it gonna be a long one, finding 23 more of those gems somewhere.. .. Wasn't planning on joining them but then stumbled upon one of those gems and got curious what it was for..

But, all good fun and that's the main part. :D

Just bought this for £2.50 in the Steam sale lol crazy price

Thinking about purchasing an upgrade to my GTX460 but I don't game enough these days to warrant buying anything brand new and top end.

I want to enjoy Skyrim in all its glory though and was looking at some videos with the ENB mods and it looks great.

Do you think a GTX660 (2nd hand) will be sufficient along with an i5 2500k at 4.5ghz to run this at 1080p with an acceptable framerate? Or would I have to sacrifice some of the high gfx settings?

Witcher 3 is on the horizon also which I really want to play, I don't mind toning the settings down a little I just don't want to buy an inadequate card that isn't going to be much of an improvement over my MSI GTX460 Talon.

Thanks in advance

I'm running it on roughly the same spec and have no problems. Admittedly I've not got that many mods installed but it runs ok.

I run it on a GTX660 @ 1080 with loads of MODS and Gfx enhancements, too many and it borks but personally once i'm playing the game and "into" it, I don't notice half the little tweaks anyway

Not to 'scare' you but SLI 780Ti's can just about cope with skyrim with a good enb with all the bells on, and maintain 60fps.
This is at 1440p or 2560 x 1080 which are my monitors. Normal 1080 will be kinder, but not a huge amount. ENB needs serious grunt unless you go for a lite one. It's worth it though, I'm totally mad on enb skyrim.

Framerates still dip occasionally but only in weird CPU bound places.

Can second this. SLI 970 here and frame rates stay just above 60 at certain points.

Thanks for the replies.

Didn't realise it would be so demanding, looks like I will have to up my budget haha

Liking the look of the GTX970, really low power consumption compared to the previous 7xx generation but circa £280 is a little harsh on the wallet!

Is there any news on the release of the next iteration of Nvidia cards so there will be a surplus of these has people upgrade and hopefully bringing the price down sub £200 2nd hand?

Sorry been out of the loop a while and not sure when the 9 series was released.

Couple of images i took tonight.. have to say Skyrim i never thought would be a game i would like.. probably my favorite game of all now

I have SLI 680's and run Skyrim @ 60fps (including all the mods in my guide + an ENB).
A single 780/780ti should handle it all fine.

@String, what mods do you have installed? You should be in the high 90-100's at least.
Are you using nvidia inspector, as that can help a lot with SLI.

The only places you will likely see frame rate drops with an ENB are

RIFTEN
WHITERUN
and the worst one MARKARTH

Do note this does depend on how much grass you're using, texture mods and everything else. For example I get 50fps+ in WHITERUN but add JK's Whiterun overhaul and I get 30FPS+ :P. However I'm very happy, and I'll be looking to get another Gigabyte G1 970 next year :)

I have pretty much everything in your guide installed up until Riverwood Redux. Yes I get around 100fps in general, but as has been said this will drop to around 60 in Whiterun, Riften and Markarth.

I didn't see anything in your guide about nvidia inspector. I do have it on my system, but I haven't changed anything for Skyrim.

BTW, I'm sure we discussed NI before when I had my dual 670's. I can't remember what it was you advised me to do, and I haven't been having frame rate issues with my 970' so hadn't thought about it again. I'm also playing on a G-Sync monitor so frame drops aren't as noticeable either.

Here's some photos of places where FPS drops (see the FRAPS overlay at the top right of screen).

This is with G1 Gaming 970's SLI @ stock, and pretty much every mod in ReaperGuy's guide right up to and including Riverwood Redux.

Sorry to be posting one after the other here, I'm really just tinkering...

With SLI both my GPU's run @ 50% load.
With SLI disabled, my single GPU runs at 99% load.

FPS is the same each time. So, something is not right with the SLI set up.
