The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

I've been modding Skyrim since it's release and this guide is by far the best one to follow if you're starting from scratch.

While the OP's post is still relevant, it contains a lot of ini file edits. Skyrim Tuners optionals on the Nexus contain a zip file for custom Ugrids 5 ini files that avoids all the hassle of doing it yourself. Also..

- There is no reference to install order. It's important because some mods overwrite other mods files.
- I couldn't find any reference to TES5 edit and cleaning masterfiles. This is also seen as a mandatory nowadays.
- I think I saw reference to the Steam Workshop. Me personally, I wouldn't recommmend using it.
- I would also make the following edits to the OP's SKSE ini file to allow for more RAM being allocated on loading.

[General]
ClearInvalidRegistrations=1
[Display]
iTintTextureResolution=2048
[Memory]
defaultHeapInitialAllocMB=1024
scrapHeapSizeMB=384

Somethings gone **** up with my mods, fired it up after a few weeks not playing and a lot of snow textures are purple, I did update nmm a few weeks ago I wonder if it screwed it up

Purple textures means texture files are missing from your data folder. You could try re installing any landscape textures in the order you originally installed them. That should fix it.

Theoretically, it should use the vanilla texture but you might have a mod that's changing the path for the snow textures.

I just spent an hour doing this tutorial to find that it just crashes on launch. There is so much that it could be, no wonder I never bothered doing this. It's such a pain

This is something that's not covered much in the forums.

Download TES5 Edit, and click on the executable. A pop up box should appear with all your mods listed, and a button that says 'ok' at the bottom. Click on 'ok'.

This runs the TES5 Edit background loader. It simulates loading Skyrim without actually loading.

If your getting a crash, the background loader should stop with an error at the mod that's causing the problem. It's usually a patch issue that's loaded before it's masterfile.

Give it a try.

Make sure you use LOOT to get the right load order.

The cart seems to be flying around the place too!

disable mist in enblocal.ini

As for the cart flying all over the place, that's a common issue. You need to put a frame cap in there. There's an ENB setting for it, I think it's in enblocal.ini aswell.

Alternatively, you could just use this mod to skip the whole Helgen sequence. I do. I got sick of seeing the cart sequence

That sorted it, cheers. I'll have to sink some time in now
