Have you tried Vivid Weathers? Massive weather overhaul that's designed to work without an ENB preset, so you might find it a bit more FPS-friendly. You can also tweak the bloom and saturation via the MCM menu.

Without an ENB everything runs fine and I have tried Vivid weathers briefly and marginally preffered CoT-V. If i try an ENB again i'll see what happens when use Vivid weathers instead of CoT.

God, am i glad the free upgrade is coming, going to be great looking without installing 100's of mods, cant wait.

Lets hope so, i wouldn't be surprised if they did a half-arsed job though.
 
Hopefully in the upgrade they tweak Barbas. His constant barking and nudging was tolerable except when you are locked in a conversation at which point it just became annoying to the point I told him to naff off without completing the quest :) Just needed to rant about that :) Otherwise loving this game - shame it took me so long to get around to it.

I'll be able to test things further later tonight as I'll be going out in a short while but I suspect the 4k Parallax Tree Bark textures aren't exactly helping. I dropped down the 2K variety then eventually disabled altogether as they were too taxing.

How much of a difference do you think it would make replacing my 980 with a 1070 for ENB performance?

Probably about a ~30% bump. Impossible to know exactly as no-one would have benchmarked the 2 cards with Skyrim and running the same mods.

Although I'd wait for the remaster and/or disable some mods before pulling the trigger if that's the only reason to upgrade.

The problem with this is that the remaster will almost certainly look inferior to someone who has been running multiple high quality, high demanding mods for years....so they'll start adding mods again to improve things.

....and so the cycle continues...why do we do these things to ourselves! Lol

I'll be able to test things further later tonight as I'll be going out in a short while but I suspect the 4k Parallax Tree Bark textures aren't exactly helping. I dropped down the 2K variety then eventually disabled altogether as they were too taxing.

Also in your load order you have Realvision ENB but your enblocal.ini and enbseries.ini seem to be from Tranquility ENB. Have you combines the two?

As was always the case with Skyrim. it seems the fun continues. With people spending what seems to be as much time modding it as they do playing :D

Well it at least it was like that for me, or so it seems.

It always felt a kinda brutal game to mod, or maybe I just got carried away. I could go from a great looking and working Skyrim to "boom" all would turn to rat poo :(
 
How much of a difference do you think it would make replacing my 980 with a 1070 for ENB performance?

Depends a bit on the mods you use - quite a lot of the time I'm drawcall limited in DX9 with the setup I use so changing GPU doesn't make that huge a difference in some bits where it really gets bogged down.

I went from a 780GHz that was performing about what a 980 would in Skyrim with the overclock I was running to a 1070 and the performance increase varies from about 36% in some places i.e. big outdoor views with lots of foliage (though I'm using insane foliage density) through to more than double in some of the missions/burrow type locations where I can go from ~60fps to ~130fps.

EDIT: Bah forgot changing GPU re-detects some aspects of the settings and somehow managed to fail to backup my most recent set of changes so lost my perfectly tweaked settings now :| and its been a few months so can't remember what the changes were.

Also in your load order you have Realvision ENB but your enblocal.ini and enbseries.ini seem to be from Tranquility ENB. Have you combines the two?

Ah, OK. It looks as though I've included mods that I've disabled. I use Mod Organiser and like to swap similar mods frequently. I haven't used RealVision for a while. I'll update the list when I return home.

I'm currently using Pure Waters and yes they would conflict. I also swap regularly between Realistic Lighting Overhaul, Enhanced Lights & FX, and Relighting Skyrim. The latter being the least cost to frame-rate I believe.

There's no harm in experimenting with Skyrim.ini and Skyrimprefs.ini if you take backups of your existing configs first.
 
Could someone take a look at these screenshots as i'm not sure on a couple of points.

The first two are about the FOV, specifically about whether or not its meant to be so narrow. Should the weapons not be fully visible rather than cut off at the top?

These next two are about the distant terrain and how rubbish it looks even with all the settings on Ultra.

This first one is super annoying because i'm actually pretty damn close to the mounting but the textures are still horrific.

There's only so much you can do with Skyrim's distant textures, unfortunately. Where you are in those screenshots, the plains near Whiterun, is probably the worst area for it because there's nothing blocking your view - and the more grass you have the more noticeable it is when the grass hasn't loaded yet. There are .ini tweaks you can make but afaik the grass will never stretch as far as the eye can see, especially around Whiterun.

DynDOLOD and mods like Enhanced Landscapes will with help with distant objects but it will never look perfect.

The FOV looks normal for vanilla which, like other aspects of the game, was designed with consoles in mind. You can change it in skyrim.ini: https://levelskip.com/rpgs/change-fov-skyrim

So fresh install of skyrim.

Trying to decide what mods to go for now.


Is there a fairly simple universally compatible graphics upgrade mod?

Kinda stalker complete for skyrim incsn use as a base.


Need to get the fps down to at 140+ everything is bugging out due to the physica bug
