The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

I'm just about to start modding skyrim after I was severely let down by the visuals. It looks pretty average tbh and this is running it at max with my GTX 580.

I'm a bit lost though. There seems to be a lot of texture repacks and I'm wondering if anybody can reccemend a core set? In the past when I've modded games I've come across crashes and things with conflicts between mods. The original post just seems to be a bit of a word vomit tbh :(

As long as you have a decent rig and launch the game with the 4GB patch, all texture mods should work just fine.

Mods that affect the interface, scripts, ENB, other injectors, all these can cause occasional crashes.

You don't have to set anything to read only except the skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini that will be overwritten if any changes are made upon a start up.

Well the problem seemed to fix its self when I change it to read only:confused:. Although changing it back did not "unfix" the problem.

The 4GB patch, do I run the patch download off skyrim nexus or follow the instructions on the 4GB tutorial one?

You just need these 4GB Skyrim files.

where are saves stored ?

dont want to try these mods and mess up game and lose crap :D

Unless you're still using Win Xp, then I have no clue. ;)

Also, is the mod manager worth using?

Perhaps, if you really can't be bothered to download and update mods manually. Most mods are updated quicker with no NMM support.

I find it easier to just know what I'm doing, I remember most mods that I installed and what files belong where.

I ran that and nothing seemed to happen. I checked using my task manager and the skyrim.exe.4gb thing wasn't there. Do I need to change my shortcuts or something? Is there an easy way to check it's working?

All it does is load up the game. Can I then close it and open it using my standard shortcuts (I.E. start bar)?

You know, you could just read the instructions before asking questions here.

Another useful mod if you like crafting stuff or just want to craft more bits for that cool look :p

More Craftables

I also found this by the same modder. I havn't tried this one yet but could be good. I was surprised that Skyrim didnt already have weaps to craft with dragonbones or scales so this could potentially fill the void

Just been using the 4GB MOD for a few hours. No funny texture issues or CTDs :)

Maybe I can install some more textures now!

Yeah I forgot to say that. I haven't had a single missing texture since using that. Really the best mod I have installed by far, and I love them all :D

that perk reset mod may be a good idea, although I may wait until I play more of the game. I'm 35 hours in and I've only been to Dawnstar and Whiterun so far, so I would feel like I'm cheating!

Awesome. I installed "Arrowsmith" last night but haven't played since to try it. Will add these mods also. Will it add to my smithing XP? :D
