The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

Anyone else feel dirty when they install a mod that makes new items come into the game?

I installed "Weapons of the Third Era" and picked up a couple cool swords but I couldn't help but feel like I have ruined my Skyrim experience by doing so.

I reverted back to a save that the mod wasn't applied to and have turned the mod off for now.

Once I complete the game's main quest I may enable it again and make up some story about how they got into the land of Skyrim in my head.

Texture packs and the FXAA things only for now me thinks.

I've not installed any new weapons, but I've installed mods to craft arrows and dragon weapons.

I've not done it but I can imagine how you felt. I think id feel the same. I think it would detract from the game somehow. I won't be doing it. Might have a mess around once the game is completed, but not during.

Yep, I installed that mod and the very next dungeon I went into snagged a sword worth 4000gp. Didn't feel right so uninstalled it.

Sounds of Nature - Water

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4226

Description:
What does this mod do exactly? It makes the water sounds in the game sound much better, such as rivers, waterfalls, streams, brooks, etc. The sounds are longer, giving them more variety, and at a higher bit-rate, which means they will have higher audio quality than the default sounds. The sounds were taken from live recordings of real waters sources. This is part of a huge sound overhaul project that aims to make Skyrim's sounds more realistic and sound better overall.

Recommend installing this AFTER you've installed any previous mods

Don't use any until you find something that annoys you. Despite the talk of 'no performance loss' it's not actually true. Installing mods will lower your frame rate and increase loading times. For the most part it's a negligible difference but it is there.

If you want a starting point, to gain some confidence, install the No more blocky faces mod.

I realise there's a list in the first post, but what are everyone's top 5 mods? I don't really know where to start...

Yeah, a list of "essential" mods would be nice. I'm getting Skyrim for Xmas (many others are too, I would guess) and there's already an overwhelming amount of mods out there. I'm not too bothered about graphical improvements, more performance fixes and gameplay essentials.

My shadows are popping/fading in when I am running along and I can't remember it doing this before I am also getting a little scenery pop up, its really annoying.

Only done the config tweets(all of them) except vsync.

I'd beware of that SKSE script thing. It doesnt seem to work that well, cause's the npcs to freeze, like at the beginning of the game. After Rothgar cuts your bonds and you encouter the Imperial Captain they stop moving. Could cause other similar unknown problems. So I'm not using it at the moment.

Realistic Water Textures 1.7.1 update.

It's being updated every couple of days.

No problems whatsoever here, been using it since its release too.

Unless you meant that specific plugin which I haven't tried yet.

has anyone used the 'corpses not disapearing' mod? and if so, does it slow the game down with hundreds of dead bodies everywhere?!
I like the idea of them not disapearing as its pretty clinical seeing them go away when you next re-visit a scene.
